What if... (Purely hypothetical promo-based idea)
Disclaimer: I seriously doubt this would actually get put in game, this is a "what if" thread.
What if, to get Promo item X for game Y, one had to not only preorder/buy the game in question, but actually play it up to a certain point, like the Spiral Knights and SMNC promos? Hypothetical example: To get the genuine Sharp Dresser and Dashin' Hashashin, play through, say, Sequence 1 of AC:R. In theory, this could serve to widen the player base for games with promos. Thoughts? |

If someone buys a game just for the sake of getting a Genuine item worth far less than what they payed for the game and has no intent on playing it, that's idiotic, and I doubt barely anyone, if anyone at all, does it.
So this doesn't really serve any purpose. Making promos harder to get would not entice more people into joining the player base. It would probably lessen it, as I'm sure there are people who are indecisive and sort of want to play the game, with the promo being the deciding factor. The thing with Spiral Knights and SMNC is that they're F2P. Last edited by Shradow: 05-14-2012 at 11:42 AM. |

They really have no reason to get you to play the game. They have your money already, unlike F2P games.

a) a very bad and painful gameplay and you need to play tru it to get the item([bolt action blitzer) b) a very good game with good gameplay that is enjoyable and you will keep on playing even after you get the promo item(N/A) |

Not getting the item until some time after the game was released wouldn't encourage preorders as much.
It's a good way to do it with multiplayer games, where the publisher cares about the size of the playerbase. But if someone preorders/buys a singleplayer game, there's no reason to force them to play it if they don't want to. Edit: Hundredth post, woo. |
