List file size on store page

I'm sure this has been said a million times before but I'm here to say it for the million and first because it still hasn't happened. Why does the game store not show the download size for a game before you buy it? I'm Canadian and for those of you who don't know, our internet SUCKS, yes with caps, it's that bad. I have a 70 gig cap every month that I have to share with everyone else in the house (it used to be 60 but Rogers decided to suck less I guess) and it really sucks to buy a game and then find out I have to wait until the counter rolls over or pay $2.50 per gig over 70.

It's a simple request and I don't expect pinpoint accuracy in the description of file size, a rounded number would be fine.

Almost every game on Steam does list the approximate file size. It's listed under the Requirements.

Example for Dear Esther: Dear Esther PC Requirements

That's hard drive space, certainly steam compresses the file before uploading it.

Well you did ask for a rounded number and that is exactly it. I checked with a few of my games and it seems they list out the requirement it higher than the actual file size. And if they did compress it, I don't think it differs by gigabytes.

I've added my support for this suggestion in previous threads and I'll add my support to this one as well.

The value listed for "Hard Drive" in the system requirements area of each game is not an accurate measure of how large the download will be. Therefore, it is not suited for the purpose of deciding whether or not you can afford the cost to download the game on a metered/capped internet service.

Perhaps Valve should write a script that automatically runs at regular intervals on their main content server. This script would measure the total download size of each game and write the values to a database so that they can be displayed on each game's store page as a separate "Download Size" requirement. Having the script run regularly will prevent the value from becoming out-of-date when updated versions of games are uploaded to the content server.

For me personally, this feature is becoming less useful over time because internet in South Africa, where I live, has become progressively more affordable over the past few years and uncapped services are within reach of average consumers. However, I still sympathize with those using metered services.

That's up to the developers not Valve.
