screen starts up black

i had to change computer (to a crappy laptop that was built for world of warcraft so should run spaz) but every time it starts up it fills the middle of my screen only and just stays black, but uses up CPU power so not sure how to solve this, verified files to incase that was the problem, but it was not

ah ha! fixed it! managed to dig up an old forum by the looks of it and it had my cure, had to replace the canvas file to get setup working so i could use directx mode

Yeah, my video card seems to only want to run the compatible mode.
