Steam Client Beta Available

There's a new Steam Beta client available. To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings. On the Account tab press the Change... button to open the Beta Participation dialog. Then Select "Steam Beta Update", and allow Steam to restart itself. Here are the specific changes:

- Fixed potential game crash caused by the in-game overlay in games using DirectDraw4 or older
- Fixed startup failure on Windows XP SP1 ("unable to load library steamUI.dll")

Well... You didn't tell this stuff:

- Did you have the issue before this beta?
- Your PC's specifications (Operating System, RAM, CPU, etc.)
- What settings you are using on CSS? (most importantly, is Multicore Rendering on?)

would be helpful to know a bit more

if you click START and in the search box type "dxdiag" without the ""
you get the direct x screen
there is a button with SAVE ALL INFORMATION
it saves it into a file called DxDiag

post the
Processor
Ram (Memory)
Video Card
Operating System

- Fixed overlay for games using older versions of DirectX

Does this affect Battlefield 2? I know that the Steam overlay in Battlefield 2 causes Punk Buster to kick you from servers when overlay is enabled for the game.

These bugs surfaced again in full force a few betas ago. This one doesn't seem to fix them either.
