Contact support, unless a forum admin can help, there is nothing a normal user could do sorry.

When you try to click the button, what URL does it provide? Mine is /betacheck, which seems highly irrelevant to my intentions.

This is the page for linking a Steam account:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/betacheck

After clicking that link, you should see:

You are being rate limited and auto-directed back to the forums.

Please wait 24hrs and try again.

Would it be possible to have the page return that "error" for 10 seconds or so, then redirect?

(Similar to how vBulletin gives us a message when we close a thread then it redirects to the destination.)

Sure, I could add some error messaging. The rate limiting is also pretty aggressive so I can tune that a little bit.

I assume you or someone who shares your IP has tried several times to link accounts.

No way... In order to validate that you're linking YOUR Steam account, it requires you to login through Steam. Otherwise, we would simply provide a place to enter your account URL manually.

Meh. Just thought a forum admin would have some sort of bypass/override capability.
