How does steam on the PS3 work?

If I buy a game on steam that is also released on the ps3, can I download it onto the PS3? I ask mostly out of curiosity, and because it would be neat if I could put skyrim on the family ps3 without having to buy another copy.

I believe this only worked if you bought the PS3 version of Portal2, which gave you a Steam key for the PC version. Otherwise there's no cross platform support in general.
