Has Steam actually disabled this game?

So I am aware that this game is gone from the Steam store. But, I purchased before it was pulled, and finally got around to installing and trying to run it with the indicated fixes.

As soon as I try to launch the game, I get a message "Steam not found", my web browser opens the Steam homepage, and then nothing. I'm aware this game is hard to get running, but I was expecting the game to crash, or throw up an error message unrelated to Steam itself, presumably relating to video card compatibility issues. This, however, looks like a Steam DRM problem.

So what gives? Did the folks at Steam pull the plug not only on selling the game, but on allowing us who bought it earlier from even launching it?

I'll be darned. It works! (meaning the game crashes with a "video card not supported" error, as I initially expected). I've got hundreds of Steam games and this is the first time I've had something like that happen. Thanks!
