Question Pre-Steam Thief series owner question

I bought all three Thief games (The Dark Project, Metal Age, Deadly Shadows) before they were available on Steam. Getting these old games to run on my new computer is a major hassle, but I assume that these problems were fixed in the Steam release. Is there any way for me to get the "fixed" Steam version of the games without having to re-purchase them?
Thanks.

I meant like Registering the game via Steam and getting the fixed version, or something along those lines.

I don't know how well they keep it up to date, but there is a knowledgebase article listing games which you can use retail keys to activate on Steam.

My assumption is that this would not be the case for the Thief series - Deadly Shadows would be listed by now, and I doubt they'll implement it for the other two.

The Thief series has no Serial codes. How do you expect to register them in Steam?

Just cracked open my CD case and noticed that - guess that answers my question, then.

That's a grand assumption which in Steam's history has often not held true for older releases that find distribution via the platform (e.g. Commandos, MDK, et al). In the case of the Thief series, it is true. Don't trust that Steam will verify a title works before they sell it to you. Always ask around the community before purchasing.

I haven't seen a straight answer here yet for these games.

I own all on CD and the third on Steam, but are the first two improved on Steam to justify re-buying them here?

I haven't tried installing from CD on Win 7.

Basically not.
Thief 1 (and 1 think Thief 2) original cds cannot be installed on NT based PCs without the "setup.exe -lgntforce" run from command line. And obviously you may need the game official patches too.

After that just run though same set as link below and you will exactly the same version as steam users (after they have also installed the updates too)...

But i do like my big THIEF icons sat in steam :P

It is not possible and there's no reason for it either. The steam release, from what I've read here (correct me if I'm wrong) is basically the same as the CD releases except it includes the ddfix patch which you can download yourself without needing the steam version.

Does the Steam overlay work with them?

Doesn't work with Deadly Shadows for sure.

Erm no, as they use Directx6.1. Steam overlay needs at least Direct x 9.0 to work
