I noticed something about the Thief collection...

When you view it on this page: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/14734/ , it shows the date when it released on Steam.

However, when you view them on their separate pages, you'll see:

Why would Valve do that? Are they trying to trick us into buying the game or something?

Um. The game is old, but still good.

No trickery.

What I meant was, why the difference in dates? The game looks good, and I'll probably be buying it, regardless of when it was released, but I was just curious.

It works that way for all games.
On the game pages it shows it's release date.
In the list it shows date when it was published in Steam.

They are just indicating when it was released on steam and when it was actually released. It tells you both of them for people who may want to know.
It doesnt harm anyone by having either of the dates there

No s/he didn't. S/he asked why Valve decided to do it like that. Just observing that it does that isn't answering their question.

That did answer his question, though.

Well, no... It didn't.
OP can see that it happens, but they are asking _WHY_ it happens like that?

For example: Why not have them both as release date? Why not have them both as Steam Publish date? Just seeing that one is publish and one is release - in different areas of the Store view - is not an answer to their question. That's just the observation that sparked the question.

Maybe helps to increase sales. Clueless people or people who want everything "new".

Again, the answer seems self-explanatory... there's the Steam release date and then there is the original release date. I don't see the question here. >_>

If you are buying a game solely on the date it was released, then you need to reevaluate the reasons why you buy games.
