It all depends what you're looking for in a game. The co-op can be fun but that is only if you can forgive the lackluster voice acting, terrible story, unimaginative selection of weapons, incredibly terrible gunplay, disjointed melee combat, poor driving mechanics and vehicle physics, out of place fetch quests and the very poorly animated character animations.

Despite all the bad things I mentionend which is pretty much the entire game, it can still be a fairly entertaining experience so long as you're playing with other people. Now don't get me wrong, I had just as many bad things to say about the Left4Dead games even though I played those with a few of my best friends aswell.

Dead Island is however great fun in co-op while you're drinking beer and hanging out with some good friends.... and if your not then I wouldn't recommend it.

P.S. Please take note that I have nothing bad to say about the enviroment itself. The beach and the hotel are for example the most impressive features of the entire game.

Honestly, the "DayZ" mod for Arma 2 (which is why it's suddenly jumped way up the charts) is more like how Dead Island should have been. Massive open and persistant world (225km square), free roaming, day/night cycles and weather that actually effects you, 50 players per server, far more replay value.

They have put dead island on sale because that mere mod is eating up the zombie game fans :P

Please, never even heard of your mod. Just because you have found something you personally like better doesn't mean a silly mod is the reason for a sale. Get real. It's called marketing. Lots of games and a limited pool of money. This is what sales are all about.

As someone who has beaten the game, I can easily put my seal of approval on this title. Yes, this game has a multitude issues that have been aforementioned. However, what isn't broken is how fun it is to kill zombies with various objects.

30 hours well spent. Dayz, the Arma mod is insanely boring and buggy.
Dead Island has some bugs but it is a very very nice and fun game.

Actually it IS the reason it's sales have jumped 5 fold, as stated by the developers of Arma 2. It's so popular in fact that they are working with the mod maker to improve it and are going to include it in an official patch...

All this while Dead Island MP is pretty much dead (not that it was ever much alive) and they are milking it with "DLC" :/

Is it worth it?

Have the devs fixed the disappearing inventory items? Have they fixed the horrible mouse performance? Have they fixed the glitchy inventory wheel? Have they fixed the close-quarters ghost combat? Have they fixed the goofy model animations? Have they fixed the "I'm playing solo but there are three other major characters in my FMV" cinematics? Have they fixed the thrown weapons glitch? Have they fixed the suicidal followers? Have they fixed the million or so graphical oddities that litter the game?

The fact that you still need a buttload of user mods just to get the game to run without crashing or glitching should tell you whether it's worth it. Wait for a 90% off deal if you really feel the urge to buy DI.

I just bought the game on sale and have had about an hour or so to play. My initial thoughts were it's worth $11-15 dollars. Not any more than that. There are odd issues that make the game frustrating, like simply walking feels very awkward. Trying to climb stairs is annoying. Not being able to hotkey weapons or using the scroll wheel to select weapons is VERY annoying. I literally have to hold down middle mouse button and a weapon wheel pops up. Then I need to move the mouse in the direct of the weapon I want to select. Also, in order to equip a weapon, you must double click on the slot you want. You also have to equip a weapon before you are able to drop the item. The interface is ridiculously clutter. I sometimes pick up bottles and other items and instead of putting it in my inventory, it automatically equips the item. I found myself in fights thinking I had a weapon in my hand and I go to attack the zombie and I swig alcohol instead.

The animations are a ing joke. They are some of the worst I've seen in recent games.

The combat is fun. It feels rewarding. Now, as I stated, I've only had 1 - 1.5 hours of gameplay. I find everything about the game clunky. It still is worth it for the sale. I played with a friend who has owned the game since release. It was enjoyable. I would never pay more than $15 for this unpolished game, but for the sale price, it's worth it.

That's a well known bug they have yet to fix; fortunately there;s a community based "mod" (patch really) that solves the unwanted inventory switching issue entirely, you can find it here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2194878

Why not just buy it and stop with these attention seeking posts?

If you like clubbing zombies and don't mind a bit of a grind now and again I think you'll have fun.

It's still a bit buggy and if you (or anyone else reading this) decide to pick it up, definitely run the Dead Island Helper along with it.

This. Except the clunkiness of bugging me to the point of it almost feeling not worth it. Almost. We'll see, I need to put more than 1 hour into it... but so far I'm kind of disappointed in my purchase.

It feels like it needs a major polish patch of some sort. Otherwise, it looks great.
