Anyone else notice a large influx of new players?

I've heard the game is around $5 or something used at game stores nowadays, and I believe it. I see so many names I don't recognize with hardly any gamerscore, running around without a clue on how to do anything. A lot of them sound like really little kids, as sad/bizarre/disappointing as it sounds. I now it's not really anything new, but it feels like there's just been this giant wave recently, and I'm not sure if it's just me being paranoid.

I wouldn't know because I haven't played the Xbox version in months, but if it's true I don't see how that could be a bad thing. More players = more full servers, even if the players themselves are absolutely rubbish.

I played the game a few nights ago for the first time in months. It seemed to be more inactive than it used to be, with only five or so 2fort games and one Dustbowl game. I guess I could have played at a bad time though.

Even if the players are new and not familiar with the game, it is nice to delay the disappearance of the community for a little longer. TF2 on the Xbox should really run in a "longest period of dedication by community" contest.

It wouldn't win. People are still playing and modding DOOM and that game is almost 20 years old, and I'm sure there's other examples too. Maybe if it's restricted to console games only.

Yeah, maybe for Xbox-franchise games then, or just console games. It does seem to be doing pretty well though, for such an old game. I'm sure it will pretty much lose all its members though when the new Xbox comes out :/. And eventually it will be permanently dead when Microsoft shuts down Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 (since they did that for the original Xbox's Live service).

I know what you mean. I like to joke that there are more FP2's than the pc version on xbox servers. Atleast that what it seems like. Far and few inbetween do I play in a match where atleast 80% of the people know what they are doing.

Haha, yeah. Actually the average Xbox TF2 player makes the F2Pers on the PC look like pros. I'm not sure how that is possible either, maybe too much Halo and CoD rotted their brain.

It's the XBOX, I swear, after playing PC Soldier for so long, jumping on the XBOX and trying to play Soldier was just me embarrassing myself, badly.

Microsoft didn't shut down the servers for Halo 2 until 10 years after release, well into the lifespan of its sequels on the 360. That was really the only reason they kept XBL open for the original system for that long. So even restricting it to console games, it's still not going to be close.

I discovered the worst part about the wave of new players not too long ago: it's encouraging the use of skywalking. Nobody seems to know how to counter opponents doing it, and newbs copy teammates who do it to feel like they're contributing. Every other day I play I'll come across a server with skywalkers, and end up spending 15 minutes sending messages to all of the players in the server telling who the skywalkers are, how to file complaints against them, telling them they're better off submitting negative reviews against the other team (especially the host) if they didn't swap teams to help take out the nests, and repeatedly giving the same arguments against skywalking to asshats who use the same old B.S. reasons why they do it.

I'm almost to the point of hating new players for bringing back all of the bad players. I daresay I'd rather have an online community of 8 players who constantly outplay me legitimately, than have a community of 500 with 10% of them fighting above the skybox.

I feel your pain. Actually that's the thing that annoyed me most about not getting updates; not the lack of new weapons (stock is fine in most cases), new maps (would have been nice though), or hats (lord no), but lack of bug/glitch fixes. All the skywalking, tauntsliding, crouchjumping, gateshooting etc is the reason I ultimately stopped playing Xbox TF2. (Well, that and getting a new PC.)

I do hate that but it creates a new challenge to fight. I'll be demoman or sniper and give me ten minutes , they will be gone .Except maybe some dustbowl skywalks then you may just be screwed if your on the wrong team. Then you just need to skywalk them back and make them rage quit because they usually can't handle their own medicine.

Signed up for the forums just to reply. Halo 2 hasn't reached it's 10 year anniversary yet (There is rumor of a remake in 2014 to coincide with it), or even it's 8th year anniversary. The servers shut down a little after five years (April 15th, 2010). Although I do agree with the rest of your point.

*shrug*

I never cared for Halo, so I take no claim in being an expert on its history. I've only been told that for a while Halo 2 was the only thing left for quite a while, because the dedicated playerbase was huge.

Not to sound like an idiot, but does TF2 even have dedicated servers? I was always under the impression that it only had local servers, since the host can leave and shut down the game, and because not everyone can create good lobbies.

Every single server on TF2 xbox is hosted by a player. I don't think there were ever servers hosted by valve.
