Does Steam Friends keep server-side chat logs?
Oh and does it use SSL?
I'm thinking about using it as my main way to chat with people but i want to be sure that my information is secure. |

No server-side chat logs, and chats go through encrypted UDP packets - though I'm not sure what encryption method is used (I believe it's a form of Public-key encryption).

Well, you can never be sure they don't, but officially they don't, and I don't think they want to get into legal problems.
And regarding encryption, not so long ago I recall reading from a Valve employee that chat is plain text. Not sure. Do you have any references links about that? Well, I recall reading about the friends protocol open implementation and they mentioned SSA keys, but it could be to establish connection or authentication rather than the messages themselves. Any official info about it? |
