I am aware that there are already 2 toppcis about rising storm, but they only refer to the first announcement trailer and do not share much information in general. So I thought its time to make a thread which is exactly doing that. I try to keep he first post updated when new informations are being published by the devs.
What is Rising Storm?
This is a question that is not so easy to answer as you might think. Tripwire (the devs of Red Orchestra) started as a mod-team once and the first versions of Red Orchestra where a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. Since those times the guys have moved on and are now the indie developer Tripwire we all know now. Because of their history Tripwire has always been supporting modders who create stuff for their games and Rising Storm is basicall a nice little experiment that goes in that direction.
One of the problems that mods have is that it takes quite some time until the first really playable version of a mod is released. It often takes years of hard work for those teams. A lot of people and eventually Tripwire asked the question:
what would happen if a team could work on something before the base game is even released?
Rising Storm could pretty much be the answer for this question. You could call the team behind Rising Storm a All-Star-Team with some of the best guys (and ladies?) who are working on Rising Storm. Rising Storm itself will be set in a scenario of ww2 that dont has a lot of attention in video games. It will be set in the pacific where the japanese empire thought against allied forces in brutal battles.
So will Rising Storm be a mod or what?
This question can not be answered yet. The guys over at Tripwire have announced that it depends on the quality of Rising Storm how it will be released. It could be a mod, a DLC or maybe even a standalone game. But this question can not be answered yet.
Rising Storm will be released as a addon that can work as a standalone or together with RO2
Where can i found out more about Rising Storm
For more information check out these links:
When will Rising Storm be released?
No release date yet, but my personal suggestion is you should keep your eyes open for late 2012 (speculation.
Rising Storms release is currently sheduled for early 2013
What game modes will Rising Storm feature?
So far it has been confirmed that Rising Strom will include all game modes that Red Orchestra 2 has. That means there will be Territory, Firefight, Countdown but also stuff like action, realism and classic mode.
Will there be a single-player mode?
Expect something similar to Red Orchestra 2, but nothing big. It will most probably be able to play against bots on the normal maps.
What maps are planned?
So far these maps have been confirmed:
Will the be australian or new zealand forces?
So far it has been only comfirmed that there will be only american vs japanese troops since the focus of Rising Storm is on island hopping.
Which weapons are confirmed?
No real list of comfirmed weapons yet but expect typical weapons that were being used.

I can see why they are coy about a release date after the rocky beta start to RO2, but I wish someone could give us a little more confirmation. What are the odds, I'll be dodging bullets on Iwo Jima before Christmas?
I hope they add a hypothetical mission map later of troops landing on Japan proper in Operation Olympic. Wouldn't that be cool?

Well since I signed a NDA I obviously cant tell you really anything about the state of RS.
But by the public information avaible you could make a few guesses about it. The game is currently in closed beta and the 2nd wave of testers started abour 1 month ago. The closer RS is getting to its release the bigger the testing will be.
