[THE FEEDBACK LOOP] - Do you want feedback on YOUR map?

[ THE FEEDBACK LOOP ]
================================================== ======================
================================================== ================

As many of you have no doubt realised by now, it is very difficult to get good feedback on your map. There's simply too many maps on the workshop! If nobody plays your map, and so you get no feedback, how can you improve your mapmaking in the future?

This thread is intended to be the solution. The rules are simple:

  1. Download and play the latest map in the thread
  2. Write a review of the map in your forum post...
  3. ...then provide a link to -YOUR- map!
- You MUST review someone else's map before giving a link to yours -

Easy! If you want feedback on your map, you must first review someone else's. This way EVERYONE will get feedback on their map! Do you want more feedback on your map? Then just keep reviewing new maps as they appear!

Here's a suggested framework for feedback:
Quote:
  • - Overall Score (1-5): 5! I enjoyed it very much
  • - I liked: How red and glowy the lasers were
  • - I disliked: The fact that I couldn't see how to turn the death lasers off
  • - Difficulty (1-5): 5, it was hard!
  • - Logic part: There wasn't much logic that I could see; mainly just death
  • - Action part: Lots of action, primarily involving dramatic death. Via lasers
  • - Other: My skin hurts.
- Overall Score (1-5):
- I liked:
- I disliked:
- Difficulty (1-5):
- Logic part:
- Action part:
- Other:

Please vote this thread 5* if you like this idea to give it more visibility!
p.s. I swap +rep for cookies. Tasty tasty cookies.

Right! I'll download Trajectory right now. Here is my map! I'll leave feedback here and on the workshop post.

Cool

I see that you have indeed left feedback on my map on the workshop itself, TY! But you should write comments here so that people can see that you've reviewed the map! If you don't write a review (or just quietly put it on workshop), and post your map, people may think you are a jerk :P

Spoiler:
The angled plate that activates along with cube dropper has no use?? I just putted a portal under cube dropper and then a portal at the SECOND line of white panels at the wall to the left, so the cube dropped down in the black faith plate hole in the ground. Then jumped down there and got the cube, up to the excursion tunnel and back so I could put the cube on the button.

Also I don't understand what the turret has for use, if you are quick with the lightbridge on the bottom row of panels at the exit, you will reach exit quickly.

Thanks for the review! The way you completed the map was unintentional I will need to fix that! It's amazing how others look at a challenge/puzzle in a completely different way.

EDIT: I gently tweaked my map to prevent the exploit discovered by sebastiannielse.

I am gonna play both Trajectory and Safecracker. Will leave feedback here and on the workshop for both maps.

This is mine Its is very easy but i was testing an idea more than thinking about the puzzle elements.
I think you will enjoy what i was trying to achieve.

Edit: (Trajectory) Good map. I had a giggle at the trap door and the tripple portal fling. Had to scratch my head for abit in the last room but over all i enjoyed it

- Score (1-5): 4 (The fact that the tripple portal fling thing works so well bumped it from a 3.5)
- I liked: X
- Difficulty (1-5): 2.5 (scratch my head for a couple seconds in the last room)
- Logic part: 3
- Action part: 3

Still my solution works:
1: cube is coming: http://i.imgur.com/BaW8S.jpg
2: cube touches edge of hole: http://i.imgur.com/hEDRH.jpg
3: and lays down beutifully: http://i.imgur.com/m9NNx.jpg
(and of course, you dont take the cube with you down, instead you take the cube on your way up)

Would suggest that you simply make the whole walls unportable if thats not part of the solution.

Also about the thing with 4 platforms and faith plate, between 2 laser walls, is this the correct solution?

Yes, with reluctance I think I am forced to make the walls black (I dearly wanted more white in the room for aesthetics, but it's clear they have allowed people to do a variety of exploits). I did move the platform backwards though, so I thought it was impossible for the player to reach the cube doing what you described above.

There is a variety of about 3-4 ways to cross that room - there is not really a 'correct' solution. But you may be interested to know you chose the least fun mixture of portals to cross the room - congratulations!

EDIT: I should hopefully get time to play and give feedback on some maps linked in this thread soon. Only mine has got feedback so far, which though welcome, was not the goal of the thread.

I'll take the review on this one Alexander.

Review for "A Bendy And His Frankenturret"
Quote:
- Overall Score (1-5): 2 No real challenge.
- I liked: the largely portalable map. There were few areas that I could not use faster locomotion by portaling to the other side of the chamber.
- I disliked: The expansiveness of every room. It felt out of scale, like it was meant for titans to be in there, not people. There were no real risks except carelessness, and the logic was too straightforward to offer challenge.
- Difficulty (1-5): 2 relatively easy.
- Logic part: The puzzles are fairly straightforward, although placed in expansively large rooms. A redirected tractor and some blind tossing into other tractors saves the day.
- Action part: None. Split second timing does not matter, even when confronted with turrets. There are few real risks of death, unless you walk through a laser field carelessly.
- Other: There is a simple means to bypass the entire map, excepting the first chamber puzzle. Read on for details...
Spoiler:
After turning off the blue tractor in the first chamber, leave a portal on the wall outside and hop into the tractor chamber. Being careful to leave a portal gate outside, where you can get back to the button, connect the other gate under the frankencube, to drop it into the first chamber. then follow it through into the first chamber as well. Place the frankencube on the button and walk out the exit. All other challenges in the map have now been bypassed.
and since it seems to have been overlooked, I will review Tillytony's as well....

Review for "(Name your creation!)"
Quote:
- Overall Score (1-5): 3 Enjoyable, mostly.
- I liked: that intro chamber, the way the cubes were tossed was awesome! So was the detonation chain for the laser turrets!
- I disliked: in the third sphere's room, the sphere cube got stuck under the lift, and I needed to start over. Repeatedly... I ultimately had to white out the entire room to get it free.
- Difficulty (1-5): 3.5 The challenges weren't especially difficult, but the work at figuring out the white out to get the sphere free bumps it up significantly
- Logic part: Simple overall. The placement of the gels was the only real challenge here. Using the white out completely negated the need for the red speed though.
- Action part: After that initial ride on the faith plates, none.
- Other: Although I am sure that the sphere is not meant to be stuck in the 3rd room the way it is, having it be that way drops this from a fun piece to a tedious paint job of a large chunk of the map. I believe that were that not the case, this could be a really decent map. Not sure of the naming for it though...
In the meantime, here is the one I will post up for next reviewer! Feel free to choose between either, or both

Experiment 00: Bouncing Blue Blocks
Experiment 04: The Dread Machine

- Overall Score (1-5): 4
- I liked: X
- Difficulty (1-5): 3
- Logic part: 3

Spoiler:
The laser in the room to the left of the horizonal alternating excursion beams is not required. You only take the 2 balls from the room to the right and put into the ballswitches.
But be careful, if you touch the emanciation field above of the turrets that previously were there, you will be completely stuck since the laser cube is in the left room then.

Pretty good map. One of the best I have played. But once you manage to get the laser cube in the room with 2 crossing emanciation fields and 2 buttons which turns off the fields, the difficulty drops quickly.

Here is a update of my map SafeCracker, remade from scratch (updated link in old post too).

(deleted the old, couldnt find a way to "overwrite" the old file so it just got updated)

In progress of reviewing 04: TDM.

Hm.. I can't believe I missed that.

Edit: (1:50pm pst) Loophole has been fixed. Thanks for catching that!

The Experiments are ever evolving as I tweak them and learn the editor better. I'll see if I can make that a little more challenging still
