How do Sticky Bombs stick?

Are they magnetic? Are they coated in some sort of invisible glue? Are those little spikes to stick into things?

I assume
1. For the normal Launcher and Scores I assume the spikes keep them rooted, while the Jumper's stickies are covered in glue.

They're actually just socks full of explosives covered in axle grease.

Spikes, except for the Sticky Jumper, which uses adhesive.
