Why does Achievement Mananger not ban...

My question:

Why does Steam Achievement Mananger not ban people who use it to hack Killing Floor stats? It's possible to change the stats so you get all your perks to level 6, how is this fair? Why don't they get banned...

You're probably wandering how do I know they hacked? Well, I checked their Steam profiles, most of them have 10 hours or less on Killing Floor...

SAM doesn't affect game files or even run while the VAC games are running.

Unfortunately, that makes it impossible to detect.

Fortunately, what you just described is the worse possible thing that could happen, and it isn't that bad.

I don't see how cheating stats in KF is "unfair". If they want to ruin the game by getting max level characters the first time they play then let them. They'll soon be bored.

Just out of interest, how does this negatively affect your gameplay experience?

From our little friend SAM homepage.

Quote:
Will I get banned for using this?

Improbable.
Note how the own software maker doesn't discard the possibility. Suspicious, ain't it?

But besides that. SAM using may be in direct conflict with Steam's EULA.
Quote:
emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Valve in any network feature of the Software, through protocol emulation, tunneling, modifying or adding components to the Software, use of a utility program or any other techniques now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose
That won't grant yourself a ban, but a full account cancellation.
So if people are willing to put the future of their accounts in Valve's mercy for the sake of cheating an achievement... so be it.

He doesn't discard the possibility because if he did he'd leave himself wide open. That doesn't mean it's actually going to happen. Every company (or every person) does - or at least should do - this sort of thing. Here's a segment from Steam's Subscriber Agreement, for example:

"VALVE DOES NOT GUARANTEE CONTINUOUS, ERROR-FREE, VIRUS-FREE OR SECURE OPERATION AND ACCESS TO STEAM, THE SOFTWARE, YOUR ACCOUNT AND/OR YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS(S)."

My bold.

And no-one's account is going to be cancelled because of SAM.
...Sorry, I mean it's "improbable" .

I didn't mean they will, i mean they can be cancelled... whenever (and if) Valve sees it fit.

And if i'm not mistaken, some people got accounts cancelled for SAMing the hell out of last Christmas achieves to farm coal and games. So there is a precedent on Valve closing accounts for SAM use.

I cannot see anyone getting banned for using it for regular achievement unlocking purposes for games that they own.

I'm pretty sure people got account bans/suspensions in that event because they were unlocking achievements for games they didn't even own, meaning that they wouldn't pay for the game with that achievement.

Basically, if it gives you any sort of monetary advantage, then stay away.

It was mainly the people who made over 50 accounts to farm achievements, but even then, I think they just got disqualified from the coal competition and a week trading ban or something..

How are you going to cheat by having utterly useless achievements? ..
Exactly.

The problem with SAM is it works exactly the same way as logging into your account on a computer that completed a lot of achievements on another account. You all of a sudden get all the achievements stored on the computer added to your account.

It doesn't come into conflict with online servers only game files, its just like skins for CSS or TF2.

They are his stats, he's ruining his own game and not affecting you in any way like an aimbot/wallhack etc. So how it is unfair and why are you angry? Just play and enjoy the game and unlock it normal way?
