Steam music player

I know Steam does not have one. Anyways would anyone support the idea of having a custom music player integrated into the Steam overlay in the future. Just an idea I had recently just wondering if it is technically possible. Not that I think Steam will ever do it but just wondering what you guys think.

It would be nice to acknowledge which soundtracks you own under media.

Maybe just a link to the soundtrack folder for the games you do.

With all the games' soundtrack dlcs out there I feel this isn't such a far fetched idea for Steam to acknowledge.

Not really. Not only would they have to license and implement codecs, it would take time and effort away from improving other parts of the client. I don't see the benefit, especially when most games have their own music anyway.

Steam is digital distribution software with some great social features. If you want to play music, there's plenty of good software for that too. As for soundtracks being listed in the media tab, I do agree with that although it's probably too late to retroactively apply it now.

just use foobar2000
it allows you to assign global hotkeys to control playback (for example i use a combo of ctrl+shift+alt+up/down/left/right/+/- etc for play controls and volume) which will work in game, and if you really must know the name of the playing song, it has an osd plugin which will popup an overlay of the song.

No, just no. We don't need Steam to become anything close to bloated.

I'll support anything that is good for the general userbase.

However, I do tend to shy away from things such as this, because Steam isn't all things to all people. It's a games platform, and one of it's reasons for success is that it's minimalistic (to a degree) and purely fit for the purpose.

So, in other words, no thank you. There are already ways to do this.

I'd suggest you to move your suggestion to the suggestions forums.

Now, on topic, I'm not sure if I'd support this idea. Sure, we've videos on Steam already, but they're generally trailers for games and such.

NEWS FLASH........ there is a mp3 player for steam!!!!! it is called steamp3 coded by TA0 software. so the arguement of licensing codecs and such is out the window. i have it installed and it works nicely. not only is it an mp3 player it has other features as well , mostly features that are used in chat boxes within the steam messenger . google it and you see it.

I would like Steam to do better at what it is great at already, but standing still never works in business.

Look at Googles attempt at global domination. The trouble is noone seems to know where to stop.
