I'd go second hand or refurb. Here in the UK there are site that sell old business laptops and computers for dirt cheap

If you want to game a little, grab something with AMD's A series.

im looking at an Acer laptop right now.
Dont remember the model number but it's got..
A8-3500
6GB Ram
750GB HD

And, the most important part.. an ATI 6650M dedicated Vid Card.
All this for $519 CDN.

I know Acer is not the best laptop and their keyboards and speakers are a weak point. But you wont find dedicated graphics for under $800.
