What is DOTA 2 Test?

I just got an email saying I was accepted into the DOTA 2 Beta, then when I logged into steam I had DOTA 2 and DOTA 2 Test in my library. When I try to install DOTA 2, it starts installing the Test instead, what's the difference, and can I not play actual DOTA 2?

No, downloading it right now. I'm just wondering if the Test is gonna not actually let me play real DOTA 2, like with my friends who got BETA keys way back when. Cuz if it's not, It's not even worth downloading it.

I downloaded both without any problems. I could play DotA2 or DotA2 Test.

The difference is that patches (Balances, bug fixes, etc.) are tested in DotA2 Test before being "released" in DotA2.

Well, my Steam won't let me actually download DOTA 2, when I click Install, it just starts downloading the Test instead.

It's the beta of the beta. It's for testing stuff before it gets moved on to the actual beta test. Yes it sounds stupid, because it is.

but it said tht it was a spectator version
then i got a key
i inserted the key successfully n then it starts downloading dota 2 test?
n wht should i do abt the dota2 which i downloaded frm steam bfre?
is ther any problem

The beta is to test patches before they go live on the main game. I belive a couple other Valve games have the same setup.

Let the beta install. Then go back to playing the main game. no need to play the beta if you don't want to.

I think Dota 2 is the only VALVe game that has Beta which is updated regularly. CSS Beta and TF2 Beta are quite small and doesn't really anything markable.

Dota 2 Test will have new heroes and updates 1 day before they are added to normal client. During this 1-day testing phase, test client will receive from 1 to 4 updates. Bug fixing etc.
