Oh really? I thought that one was the nicest of the lot. A much more aesthetically pleasing take on Xen than HL1, and that's saying a lot.

That would be for one main reason. You linked fully conceptually environmental art.

The art on Valvetime at the moment is mostly photographic paint-over from the looks of it (maybe screenshot paint-over as well).

Regardless its a different style of doing environmental concept art, both styles are ones that Valve uses at times.

Also hooray for Smash with the confirmation. Glad I'm not crazy in recognizing art. lol.

The woman looks like an older/maturer version of Alyx.. Perhaps we time jump again.

Likely because it was and didn't long to put together. Concept art ranges from hours of work to something thrown together in a few minutes just to get ideas rolling.

Wasn't an "official" leak from Valve by chance was it Smash? cuz that would be all sorts of unexpected.

No, not leaked in that context. It was found in the same way we found the SOB art.
