Smile Introducing Source Filmmaker

The Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by us here at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

For more information, please visit the official website: http://www.sourcefilmmaker.com/

And check out Meet the Pyro, the latest video created with SFM.

Q. Can I bring my custom-made TF items and maps into the SFM and make my own movies with them?
Yes. The SFM is native to the Source game engine. Assets that you make for the TF2 Workshop or for your own game mods can be loaded into the SFM.

Sounds like it's possible Lozenger.

I'm interested to see how this pans out. Can't wait to get access to the beta to try out stuff. Looks like a really powerful tool. I hope other source games are supported in the near future as well.

Thank you for releasing it.

I have a slightly older graphics card (9800GT).

Will that exclude me from being eligible for beta access ? Will the SFM not work at all without at least the recommended gfx cards ?

A suitable one would only cost $50-100, but by that time you might not consider my application for beta access any more.

-edit-
I'd invest in a new graphics card, if one of the developers could tell me that the Requirements set forth in the FAQ are an absolute necessity. I want to use this tool extensively, and will invest in the necessary hardware, whether I get beta access or not. If an Nvidia 200 or higher card is required, that's alright. I just need to know for sure.
