Refund/cancel pre-order

So i pre-purchased this game, received Torchlight I for free and everything. However I am no longer going to be able to play Torchlight II when it comes out. I requested for a refund, however I was afraid they were going to deny me cause I received Torchlight I for free and I played it a little bit. Is this a valid concern or should I be good to go? I was hoping they would just take both games away from me and I would be golden.

Anyone know anything on this??

A full refund might only happen if you did not play TL 1 for more than maybe 20 minutes or something. There's no guarantee, but it has been known to happen.

You are perhaps entitled to a partial refund, but with Steam support being slow and generally resistant, you may have to be prepared to be very persistent and patient. They are talented at the art of inducing frustration, so you must be zen like.

Also, some people received TL 1 and traded it away. I imagine the same applies to them. Please keep us informed of how this works out for you.

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured it was going to be a struggle. Especially since i played TL. I played maybe a total of 2 hours or so. However my account shows around 13 hours ( I left it up and running a few days while i was at work ) anyway that's irrelevant. I did laugh at your " I must be Zen like" comment. haha It's probably true, and i plan on doing so!

Thanks for the response and input! I will keep everyone updated!

I'd imagine that a used product, even though it's digital, cannot be returned as you've already.. how should i say it, enjoyed from it.

May we know why you won't be able to play it when it's out?

Just submit a Steam ticket. Worst they can do is refuse.

Can you please update us on your progress? I personally know of several people who are very curious for their own sake.

You can't trade games you've added to your library that wouldn't make any sense ...

Just buy Torchlight 1 during the steam sale (if it is on sale) or straight up buy it and it will go to your gift inventory then request the refund for Torchlight 2.By installing and playing torchlight 1 you killed almost every chance for a refund you had.

So can I take them out of my library and then trade them? It isn't making sense to me on the trading then. You mean anygame that I have in my playable games list like mw3 and bo can't be released by me for trade here?

Unfortunately, you can't. As it is now, you don't 'own' games, you 'rent' them.

It might change in the future (I'm hoping it will), Recently, a EU court ruled that you can sell downloaded software. Although I'm not sure we will see things like that being implement in the near future.

Thanks for your answer. So how are people able to trade then. I see games I have here myself on Steam that I bought thru Steam being traded all the time by other people for Torchlight 2 (for example)? Are they trading non steam registered games then? (games they haven't accessed via Steam?) Thanks your help

not really rent them they give YOU the right to play it when you activate the game, renting makes it seem they can take the game anytime they want for no reason, also i hope that european things works out

I only received a refund 'offer' from Steam support for a game when they couldn't figure out how to get it to play on my computer with the Steam Overlay running. Basically, if the game won't function and your PC is up to the game's minimum specs, only then will they refund your money. It's like when you buy any other product these days and the retailer says it'll only refund your money if the product is defective out of the box. Some won't even give you a refund at that point, but may settle to give you a replacement.
