yes indeed, the steam version of Earthworm Jim 3D is missing the music files.
There was a old thread about this that got purged for priacy. If you wish to have music in the game look up the GoG.com version or google for the files. I can't include a link because the thread will be shut-down. I have written a support ticket to Valve on the issue: "Earthworm Jim 3D appears to be missing all the music files. As I played the game i was greated with ambient sounds and SFX but no music. This was discussed on the Steam Forums for Earthworm Jim with a thread i was in showing that many people have this problem if not everyone. In the thread which is now purged due to pricay (distrubution of gane files) this link was giving: [Link that i can't include in this thread] Its a forum with a link to a .zip containg a .dll, .exe and a folder with all the music files for the game and when put into the Earthworm Jim 3D folder for steam the game runs fine with music. The files are from the GoG version of the game. This makes me certain that the Steam version is missing files. I hope you can do a silent update on the game with the files or fix the issue otherwise surely the game is ill fit for purchase (or at least without a notice). I do believe someone has already created a ticket for this issue however with the thread being closed I am unsure of the ticket's success." |

It's not just Earthworm Jim 3D, it's Earthworm Jim 1, 2, and 3 sadly.
I don't think it's a problem with the steam version, Ive heard the PC ports of these games are just really bad(Yeah for once the console version is better XD) It's not just music either, The first 2 games have really bad resolution, bad controls, glitchy sound, and I think they're missing levels. If there's a fix for this then an update should be dispatched immediatly. Otherwise Valve should really take the games off steam and offer store credit or something to everyone who bought the games. I think they're that bad |

Allow me to explain the quirks of the Steam Versions of the Earthworm Jim games(Please excuse the thread revival, I have useful information to add)...
Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 - It's the DOS "Whole Can O' Worms" version, which means that both games are missing some levels, the gameplay can sometimes be choppy, it has to be played through DOSBox, and the Gamepad Calibration in the first game is pure evil. Earthworm Jim 3D - It's the standard PC Port, but without any music. No idea why the music's missing, as it's present in all other PC versions of the game. I opened a ticket a long time ago about this, got about 6 useless replies, and after about 3 months of annoyance, I was told that they're going to try to fix it. 3 months later, here I am typing this message with the game -- to my knowledge -- still missing its music. Already did a ticket for missing music before I MADE the patch.
They said they would look into it. I guess they didn't like it. I'll repack the files needed for music and to play it. I'll link it here and contact you on steam when i am done with it. (I'm at work atm so i can't fix anything for you atm) |

Link Follow this link to get the "patch".
Someone re-used my link to help an other so i guess all is not lost yet. Just extract it in the EWJ3D main folder. The a-holes on that site didn't even credit me. =\ The files don't look tempered with and the game can be launched normally. STEAM DO NOT REMOVE THIS POST! FIX THIS SH*T YOURSELF OR LEAVE THIS ALONE! |

Sorry I never chased all this up. Life got in the way and i kept forgetting about this. Now that life is a little less hectic imma chase up steam again, maybe if they get enough messages they eventually do something.
Thanks for the extra info too. |
