Valve examines the value of feeding clues to the community
Article:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com...the-community/ So announcing the next Half-Life in a similar way might happen after all? I doubt it, but it's interesting. Last edited by Lewk: 07-10-2012 at 07:43 AM. |

No, not for HL3. I'm expecting Valve to go all out. Shove it in our faces and scream "Here's the most anticipated game ever, LOOK AT IT".

HL3 will be huge, along with the ARG. If they do add something to HL2. It may be a single G-man line at the end of episode 2. Suggesting something about moving on. And on that day forward the internet exploded, also known as december 31th 2012 Last edited by lotsoftrouble: 07-10-2012 at 07:10 AM. |

As soon as they do ANYTHING with the next HL, 1 of 2 things will happen. We'll either:
1: Freak the ♥♥♥♥ out and crash the internet 2: We're all tired of jumping on the hype train every time that a crumb of the cake falls in our laps that we're tired of waiting and will just move on. |

I want both an active, interesting, and involving viral/guerrilla marketing component, as well as an actual, aggressive publicity campaign that'd put ActiBlizz to shame.

I saw Portal 2 advertised on the side of a bus near the airport. Half-Life should get at least as much up-front publicity.

The fact that they clearly view the approach as a great success and with many advantages to traditional methods, and are talking about this currently, certainly means it's possible they could do something similar for HL3, which most people would guess is the next game they have to announce.

I have no doubt they'll do it again for HL3. They've done it twice for Portal, and they just did a small one with the Pyro update. They're a lot of fun, effective, and cheap.
A HL3 ARG will break the internet, though. At least the Ep2 forum gang will have something to do together finally. *hugs* Last edited by smash: 07-10-2012 at 11:30 AM. |

I can't deny that I love ARGs, brings this community together with a fun but challenging activity. Any influx of activity in the forums is nice.

Last December was fun, I'll admit, but it was also frustrating. I'd like ARGs much better if they actually resulted in something, instead of awkwardly petering out like the Meet The Pyro one, or the one in December that just sort of stopped.

VALVe said the events in December weren't meant to be an ARG. I believe the shirt and Wheatley codes were just to get remind people about Half Life without having to really announce anything that could be changed later on.

There weren't any bloody 'Wheatley codes'.
You're not really referring to the 'hidden lambdas' mass hysteria as an ARG are you..? |
