Is there a way you can't?
Seriously, I've never heard that a single player game couldn't be played in offline mode, that would be stupid. But it seems I was wrong.

You should be able to launch it from there, or even directly from the executable in the steamapps folder if i'm not mistaken.

Well that's weird, the original game (non steam version) can be run without internet connection. Must be a mistake on steams part. Try running it directly with the launcher/exe's in the steam folder .

I just managed to play Asian Dynasties without Steam loaded. How is that possible? I put shortcut to "Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin\age3y.exe" on desktop and ran it. There was no Steam loading screen or anything.

Because the game does not rely on steam at all. Steam merely installs it and starts it up for you.
