Angry Assassin's Creed 2 - Lost Save File/Loss of Progress

I booted up Assassin's Creed only to discover I had been forced back to a point -very- early in the game. I had reached the city of Venice, when I last played, and now I find that I have basically lost.......all the progress I had made (Completing all Villa upgrades and renovations, full metal armor set, most weapons, and made it to Venice).

There is no way I'm replaying the game, so unless I can get some help with this problem the game is effectively shelved.

(And I've Googled the issue.....it doesn't look promising.)

Same problem here. I wasn't as far as you, only about half way or so, but same thing. The closest I can get is over 3 or 4 hours behind where I was when I actually exited the game. It's due to the moron/s at Ubisoft that thought Uplay was a good idea and that they could handle a cloud system to manage saved games. I've tried deleting the saved games in the directory that I don't want (I can check the times on "date modified") to no luck, I try renaming them to "1.Save" and "2.Save" and all that, no luck either. I don't have lots of time off work to replay 4 and 5 hours of the same crap to get back to where I was supposed to be in the first place, and I already wasted an hour trying to get my saved games back. I was really enjoying the game, unfortunately, the TERRIBLE Uplay system, which is completely unnecessary (especially when I bought it on Steam) has ruined the experience for me. Last time I ever pay for a Ubisoft product. Leave the digital distribution system to Valve, they know what they're doing.

i have not faced any problems with Uplay so far but i agree that they must improve it as fast as possible and they must do it before Assasin creed 3 release. Also Uplay is not excuslive to pc versions they are using it on their console versions too. With Assasin creed 3 being 3 months away they have plenty of timet o fix and improve Uplay.

I was able to recover my saves by going back to the save folder and renaming one of the ones at an earlier time before the roll back, and renaming it 1.save as stated above. it did not work immediately. i had to restart AC2 like 3 times before it randomly worked.
Hope you guys can recover your saves, because I really did not want to have to download someone else's just to resume the story.

Did you also disable the online sync when you renamed it? Cause that will just revert them back, right?

Sry I can't edit my last post for some reason...

Did you also delete the other saves you didn't want to resume from? Or how exactly did you get it to work? And I presume you disabled online sync sometime during this?

So all you did was pick out the save file you wanted (based on the time) and renamed it "1.save" and that was absolutely all you did? You didn't delete or rename any other ones? What about the ones with "metadata" attached? Sorry to keep asking but I've spent about 90 minutes total trying to get the damn game to work right. Thanks again.

Edit: I just tried that and the game doesn't pick up the saves, the slots are all just empty when I boot it up. If I copy/paste all of my old saves I can get to within about 3 hours of where I last was. F.uck Ubisoft for this BS.

EDIT 2: I just said screw it and replayed all the crap again. Seems to be saving ok on my HDD.

Assassin's Creed II is quite frankly a pain in the a*se. Its constantly losing saved gameplay and going by the forums this has been an issue since it came out. Glad I only paid £3 for it now as I'd be well jarateed off if I'd shelled out decent money.

Think I'll give anything else by Ubisoft a miss and I won't bother wasting time with the rest of the series.

So, i had the same problem:

Played 6 hours until i arrived the mansion, started the game next day and i have to complete the first assassination job again, but first i must learn how to hide in a group of people.

So i googeld and found something helpful:

When you start the game, famous uplay is starting :!
Launch AC2 in SAFE MODE (click behind ac2) and voila... there is my last savegame Oo

So my question is:

Cloud is very usefull when i want to play from different computers, but why is uplay not uploading my latest savegame so i can do that?
im glad that i play only at home, but this cloud system is so far... USELESS :S

hope i can help you =)

so far
dK

edit2:

After i set the language of uplay from english to my home language german, everything is fine and the cloud system works... for now... strange!

Cloud saving is there for this reason to save your data remotely and not on your hard drive so you don't lose it. It's just embarassing for Ubisoft to have an employee say that corrupt saves can't be retrieved or restored. That's the whole purpose of uplay storing a backup of it lol. When it happened to me, all I did was reload ACII from uplay instead of steam, it resynced my furthest progress, and everything was back the way it should've been when I went to reload my latest save. Unfortunately with all these other attempts to fix it, I don't know if it would've overwritten the cloud save data with a more recent save with less progress, but hopefully it still tracks furthest progress instead of most recent date of the save. Your save file should still be on their servers intact. I think there is just another problem with Steam cloud conflicting with Uplay cloud. I was only able to fix it by running ACII from the Uplay launcher.
