Run 2 games on same account at once?

Hello,

I am wondering if I am able to run 2 games; one on my desktop and another on my laptop next to me at the same time?

I have a lot of slow playing strategy/simulation games that don't need my full attention like; Football Manager 2012, Frozen Synapse and other games where its turn based etc... I usually like to play an action game on my desktop and a slow strat/sim game on my laptop next to me.

Is it possible to do this...when I try, I have to log off on one off computers. Both computers are on the same IP, same account.

Yes you can, just use offline mode on your other computer.

edit: you can't be online on both accounts tho, so if you are playing strategy games on online you can play only singleplayer games on your other computer in offline mode.

Not online, it's to prevent abuse of multiple users.

Actually there is a way, as long as the game doesn`t need constant internet connection to play, you can save your credentials on your laptop and go to offline mode and play the game and log into your account and play the other game on a separate pc!

Should be possible if both PCs share the same IP, for example. I'd like to play on my PC while my son plays on his.

Nope its not possible, it doesn`t matter if the IP is the same; any account can only be online on one pc at any given time.

burtonj posted something like this about steam account question in the same house.
"if none of you are playing a multiplayer game online you can put steam in offline mode and login to the next"

that thread was called "why I no longer purchase games trough steam"
many years ago so it is long gone.

do not let the bit about playing online scare you.

I don't get why they have this...
You should be able to run two games on the same account simultaneously if you choose to, maybe with a limitation of one instance of the same game at any given time.

Well I just tried your suggestions to go offline, it works with FM12...but It won't work out for me for Frozen Synapse and other multiplayer games, which sucks.

They should have something where you can register 2 PCs for one account and play games if they are on the same IP.

Thanks for the info.

For a lot of non-valve games, you can just run the .exe to start the game. You don't need to be in the steam client. So make sure each computer has the game you want to play and just go in your steamapps/common folder to find the exe you need.

From Steam's point of view, they are licensing *you* to play the game on your computer, not your household or as many computers as you can come up with.

I agree it isn't very fun or convenient, but the boilerplate strategy they have saves them from lots of illegal lan parties, etc. They'll have to change it in the future to keep up with digital trends, but for now we're stuck with it.

I can understand that, but why am I not able to run multiple games on my account from the same computer? =[
