Portal Issues

Hey,

i have issues with Portal. When i launch the game it rather starts up really fast or gives me a black screen and when switching to desktop tells me that its not responding, or it starts up but takes forever to get to the startscreen...
but thats just the first half of my problem. In game while playing for the first minute or two it works just perfect, but after the first time, it starts to get really laggy...even with the video settings set as low as they can be...
does anybody know whats going on? i havent tried portal 2 yet but i do have both games installed.

thank you for your help!

Uh oh…multiple processors…click here for information on how Portal 2 doesn't like multiple processors. Here's another thread about it…try setting Options to only use two cores??
Also, the information about downloaded programs isn't entirely necessary, and causes IT to get distracted wishing they had all that…*gets distracted wishing for Adobe AfterEffects and Photoshop; OMG, you have the whole collection?!*
