Since Gabe was talking about how terrible windows 8 is...

Just an idea here, I think that Valve should make their own OS. An OS designed for video game developers and players, by what I consider to be one of the best developers out there. Think about it, Steam OS, a cheaper better alternative to windows that hasn't been watered down to near stupefying levels. The only reason I support windows is because almost all video games require it. Well, it's pretty much a pipe dream though...

Easier to continue supporting the three "big" operating systems and wait for Google to expand Android to PC.

I am sure if Valve created its own OS it would be a lot better then any form of windows.

It's a pity microsoft has the market firmly under its boot.

And then porn companies should make an OS for porn. Sports companies an OS for Sports.

It makes no sense.

I just can't wait for the touchscreen metro interface - especially after I have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and forget to wash my hands.

As much as I love Steam, I don't think anyone could develop an PC operating system around gaming. There are so many other important functions that are necessary on PC.

If they were to design a fully functioning operating system that supports just about every function that Windows does, then I have full confidence in Valves ability to make a solid product. Although if it's strictly a gaming platform then I doubt people would be thrilled about confining their PCs to that limitation. Plus, think about all the programs and applications that would have to be redesigned just to be supported by a new operating system.

I think some people don't know what a OS means.

If Valve was to create a OS it would perform all the basic tasks our current ones do.

Why? Because out here in the real world a 300 man company specialized in gaming and digital distribution doesn't just magic up a new OS with both the universal hardware and software support that Windows enjoys after being a market leader for this long, as well as having it be "better and cheaper". As a new product it would be buggier, crappier and knowing Valve, come with a ton of absent features that will be shipped soon™.

At best, they'd do a Valve/steam Linux distribution at which point there's still the issue of very few games having a Linux version.
