Another missing "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" key...
Hello!
The problem is: today I've bought Borderlands: GOTY Edition with 4 DLC. The "Claptrap's Robot Revolution" and "Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot" DLC seem to work fine, but the "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" doesn't work. When I choose the "Jakob's Cove" from the list of possible locations to teleport, it just keeps and keeps loading. When I Alt+Tab the game I can see the activation Window, I put the serial there (which was provided after the game was installed), but it says that the serial is wrong, and I can't play this DLC. There are solutions with looking for a key in the registry, however, I don't have "TestApp8990" entry, only "TestApp40940", which is Mad Moxxi's I assume. Any solutions? |

I encountered the same issue today. The difference for me is that I bought Borderlands over a year ago, and I've already played the Dr. Ned DLC on my old computer. I tried to load my old character from the Steam cloud (so I could finish the Braiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiins achievement), and I get the same question about the activation. My copy should already be activated, right?

Steam is working on this issue, as shown in other numerous threads about missing cd keys. Put in support tickets if you own the game. If you're on the free weekend, buy the game and be patient.

Steam ran out of keys and requesting more, they said they should have more by Monday I believe.

So when you buy a game they can turn around and sell it to someone else later on? This is unacceptable, Valve needs to do something to compensate.

They ran out of activation keys because of the freebie weekend and last week's sale. They did not anticipate the number of people who would be wanting to buy and play it. How is that in any way shape or form "selling it later on?" No one can sell a game they bought on Steam, anyway, because it's keyed to your account forever. Even if you don't use the key, it's been sent to that account. I think you completely do not comprehend the idea of how these things work. |

So it seems everyone buying the GOTY is having key issues with Zombie Island. Do I really need to contact support for this, or will Steam sort it out themselves when they have more keys?

I'd suggest putting in a support ticket anyway, just to have an official thing to show that you asked.

Dunno, I've owned it for some time, but didn't even install or play it until June, and had no issues whatsoever. Perhaps it's an "install, then uninstall, then reinstall" issue?
Either way, it doesn't matter - you own the thing, and if you can PROVE that, send support a ticket. |

If you have the keys, you can activate them the following way;
Before starting a session in Borderlands, go to SteamApps/common/borderlands/Binaries/DLCSetup/ and the same for DLCSetup2 and run the .exe files for each. Enter the appropriate CD keys provided by Steam. |

Its understandable people are upset, and I agree that its puzzling that Steam\GearBox\2k would not plan better for a free weekend, but what people should know that this problem has happened before, and it always gets fixed. It sucks for a lot reasons, just don't let it ruin your weekend. Play another game, go outside, do your laundry, find a girl friend, go see the new batman movie, watch porn, adopt a pet, etc, etc, etc....

Erm yeah another user here who's had the game for ages and can't play because I have no CD for the activation? I only have 1 CD key listed for Mad Moxxi's but 4 DLC's listed for Borderlands...
This is a fine example of over zealous DRM screwing legitimate gamers. |
