My specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit CPU: i5-750 2.67Ghz GPU: 6870 1Gb RAM: 4Gb DDR3 1600Mhz PSU: 650W Corsair TX. The problem is i'm just not getting good performance. I occasionally get slow downs in various different games(Noted more demanding games) and it's really irritating. Th worst case of my system just being bogged down is in Battlefield 3 where it's practically unplayable. No matter the settings I get slow downs even if there's only the one explosion or one person shooting at me. I've tried turning AA off, settings to low, everything. The game just bogs down and it sounds like my GPU downclocks when it happens. It's not just lower frames it literally slows the system to a crawl. I've got the latest drivers(12.6), made sure Windows is in High Performance mode(For some reason it was defaulted to Balanced or Power Saver) and have most of the CCC settings set to use application settings. Is there some setting i've overlooked? Is there something i'm missing here? BF3 shouldn't be bogged down so much no matter the settings and various other games sometimes come to a crawl too. It's only the undemanding games that I have zero problems with(League of Legends, Source games, some older games, etc.). Help!

the only thing i can suggest is to do a system restore, put the computer back to when it was working fine (assuming there was a period when it worked ok) and see what setting is different between the two. sorry i cant be more help but thats all i can think of, unless you have a virus or something that is slowing the pc down, do a full system scan to be on the safe side.
hope i was able to help abit. |

If you have cranked all the video settings to minimum and you are still getting poor performance, then it's the CPU.

Maybe heat issues.. Have you checked the CPU and GPU temperatures in both idle and load?.

Heh, well... Turns out Catalyst AI was screwing me over. I just disabled it/set it to performance and it's fine now.

Not all hardware issues are a case of one part being underpowered vs another. There are a lot of cases where a part is simply defective. I think that may be what rotN was talking about.
In any case, wiping windows and reinstalling is a good idea, check your drivers, update bios, all of that is stuff that you should do anyways. Get the latest drivers from the vendor's website as well, the CD often isnt up to date. then if the problem persists, you can move onto hardware tests. always check software first, cause hardware is way more of a pain. |
