As real as it Gets,

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7708/img8239b.jpg

it started as real as it gets and finished as not so real as it gets* RIP Flight Simulator

Also isn't it sad, that the original MS flight for dos, had more content Out of The Box, then MS flight did?

PS is it still possible that I may register my software for updates and special offers?

That must be why it says MS Dos on the box.

Original? The original came in a green box with 5 1/4" floppies. What version is that? Should say on the title page of the manual and on the edge of the box.

If I had all my versions of MSFS in one place, I could have found the version number already.

I have the original packaging on my desk for the first edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator. The copyrights in the manual are 1982, 1984 and also show the same copyrights for Bruce Artwick, the original programmer of Flight Simulator. In bold letters on the front of the box it touted "Now taking off in color on RGB monitors". I probably still have the 5.25" disks around here too if I could only find them.

As for version 5.00, it came on 3.5" floppies.

Ah, thanks. Mine is version 5.1 and has different artwork on the manual cover: flying over a city at night, no cockpit or aircraft in view.

The original version was made by sublogic and released for the Apple II in 1979. It was licensed to microsoft in 1982, and that was officially released as version 1.

I played it on a commodore 64 in the early '80s.......and "it" technically didn't end with "flight", "it" ended in 2006 (or whenever the last update for it was released (I don't remember, I'm getting old...))

That's FSX you mean.

No, it actually ended with Flight. It was in the same franchise, but with a different direction. Now it's completely over.

Flight was not a continuation of the series. Plus, it wasnt done by Aces which did the FS series. The only commonality I think was that it was done by Microsoft.

Um, what do you mean by "Aces which did the FS series"? They definitely had nothing to do with my copy of subLogic Flight Simulator II. Which I'm quite sure was a part of the series (and which - coincidentally - is one of few FS versions which I'd praise as high as MS Flight )

I had the Apple version too. Do you reamember "STOLEN AIRPLANE!"? Eventually got my hands on a floppy version and didn't need the casette player any more.

The first Microsoft version (in the green box) was released without a version number. If you can find it anywhere in your game materials, tell me where to look, as I've been all over that thing.

If it's in the game itself, I'd like to see a screen shot.

Yes, it isn't a continuation of FS, but they did place it in the same franchise.

Actually not.
They changed the name after decades, changed the strategy and the target, and made all that very clear in the various interviews with Mr. Howard.
The idea was to search for a new, bigger, audience.
The experiment failed, now we hope that they understand the reasons, and decide to develop again the glorious true series.
