Exclamation Video Card does not provide display

I just built a pc and the GPU i got (XFX HD 6670 2 gb ddr3) will not show anything on an old VGA monitor that i connected to it through an adapter. The screen is blank if the gpu is in but if i take the gpu out and plug in the VGA to the Mobo it will work fine and the desktop will show. The GPU fan is spinning and it does not require a pin connector for power for i could then assume that the GPU does work. If i tried to connect the VGA to the mobo WHILE the GPU is in, it doesnt display anything.

Specs:
ASrock B75 Pro3 Motherboard
8gb gskill ram
rosewill 450 watt psu
Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200rpm harddrive
and standard sony dvd-rom

Disable the on-board graphics through the BIOS settings.

Alright ill get back to you in a bit and see

It says that the "Primary Graphics Adapter" is on PCIExpress and not on "Onboard"

The GPU is not plugged in right now as i would not have any signal going to the monitor.

Make sure that you are actually plugged into the GPU and not the mobo.

Why do you need an adapter? The version of this card I see at newegg has a vga out already.

Enable peg1/pcie-1 as the first video option and disable the on die GPU...
Re-seat the card..
Plug the monitor into the card and make sure its secure.. Are u using the supplied adapter? Not all DVI-I ports are equipped with analog btw the card has to support it..

Could be a power problem rosewill aren't known for making good power supplies. There mostly crap

I suspect it could be the psu. What's the breakdown on the +12v rail(s)?

The card i got at bestbuy and it has 1 Dual link DVI, 1 HDMI, and 1 Display port.

The Power supply is this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182022

Also, the GPU doesnt have a socket for power. It says it runs off of the pci slot power

I think Borg has this one right.

Is this your card?

Scroll down and click on the specifications tab. Notice that the DVI port is labeled DL-DVI-D. DVI-D is digital only meaning there is no analog signal being output through that port. Only a Digital to Analog converter will give you output on your VGA screen. An adapter does no signal processing, it only allows any analog signal that's present to pass through the adapter while blocking the digital signal.

Digital to Analog converters are expensive so getting a new monitor is a better option for you.

OK thanks. I also contacted the company and they said that "The DVI port on this card is a DVI-D port and can only recognize another dvi signal so you would need a monitor with DVI rather than vga." Yeah im just gonna hook it up to my tv then and see.

You are pushing the card in far enough that the latch on the slot is in the proper position on the notch of the card?

No amount of reseating the card will make a DVI-D port output an analog signal.

If your TV has a DVI or an HDMI port that should do the trick.

I hadn't seen the later posts when I posted that. There were versions of the card that had a vga adapter included and I assumed that was what was being used.

Or you could whip by Best Buy and see if they have the version newegg has (with vga port) and make a trade.
