Applying retroactive changes without uniformity, digital license yours or not?
Does Valve value the Euro over the US dollar? A question of purchasing power parity
Hello, Steam community: For those of you who may not know, purchasing power is the number of goods/services that can be purchased with a unit of currency. So, given the current problem of Valve holding Steam accounts for ransom (mandatory acceptance of contractual terms), I was wondering if Valve is tacitly stating that EU Steam accounts are more valuable? After all, the EU has recently passed a law allowing for the legal resale of digital download licenses (the purchaser of the game license can sell it to someone else). Meanwhile, the US customer cannot even access his games unless he clicks agree to the new Steam subscriber agreement. Since the US customer is being treated significantly differently than the EU customer in terms of user rights, the deviation of parity would indicate a significant difference in purchasing power. Add to this the fact that these changes are being applied retroactively and without uniformity. One cannot help but feel an injustice is taking place. As loyal consumers, don't we all deserve to be treated as highly valued customers and not only with the bare minimum respect the law allows? |
