Help! Voice Chat Distortion

I just found out that my microphone makes me sounds like baritone instead of what I actually sound like. If I do a voice test in Skype, it just sounds like me. But if I do a sound test in Steam, it sounds like you are playing a horn. Same things happens when I do a Hardware Test in Control Panel. In other word, everything else DOESN'T work except for Skype.
I'm using a built in microphone in iMac and Cirrus Logic HD Audio as my and only recording device. Any suggestions how I can fix it? It is very annoying when you cannot chat instead of typing in your favorite game and when you say something no one understands.

Also, sorry for my bad English and I hope this post is in the right section.

Have you tried adjusting the mic gain? It sounds like you might have it cranked too high.
