Xbox 360 controller
So I am getting out of console gaming and into only PC gaming. I have a ps3 and for some games i prefer controller over keyboard + mouse. Games like assassins creed, dead space. I know a wired xbox 360 controller works on PC. Does steam allow it to be used also? And is the control scheme automatically the one on consoles or you need to set each button for each game?

1. Yes
2. Mostly Yes, but it depends on the Game. A little more on #1, Steam doesn't really use the controller itself. There is an upcoming feature we've been teased with called Big Picture mode which should enable that functionality. As for the games, Steam doesn't care one way or the other. If the game supports XInput, then it will work, if not it won't. However the Steam Store has a "Controller Enabled" category on each game that supports it (sometimes it's missing, see L.A. Noire). These are specifically referring to XInput, not DirectInput, so if you see that category on a game page, it should work. By the way, XBox wireless controllers will work too, but you need the USB receiver for PC. Last edited by Alshain: 08-07-2012 at 06:45 AM. |

Controller does not get used with steam, just the game. Each gme has its own support. wireless controllers on pc are crap though. I have a wireless receiver for pc and its meh. My wired one seems more accurate.
Also you can buy a blue tooth usb dongle and use your ps3 controller with some mod drivers. |

For wireless out of curiosity do you need to buy a separate receiver or something? |

And I already have a nice NiMH charger system for my Wii so the XBox is just bonus I don't know if the cost of a GOOD charger like my Maha C9000 or the LaCrosse BC-9009 is actually worth it for one controller.
