How to prevent mouse from waking computer from standby?
It's the most annoying thing when the mouse detects movement all on its own and wakes up the computer. It's bad enough that it also does it when I'm watching videos and brings up the control bar.
The mouse is a Logitech M510, and the OS is Windows 7. I don't think I've ever had it happen with another mouse. I wish I could permanently prevent all mice from sending signals when the computer is in standby. I only use the keyboard to wake the computer. |

That's assuming sleep mode is what you meant by 'standby'. |

I guess Windows 7 calls it sleep mode now, used to be called standby. |

Unplug the mouse when you put it into sleep/standby/hibernate/not on mode.

The other poster also gave the correct instructions for disabling the mouse from waking the computer. That should stop the problem entirely. If you are still having the computer wake up randomly, something is wrong. Are you sure it's the mouse doing the waking? |

May have to. Not sure if that will stop it from detecting movement, though. Last edited by A Guy: 08-08-2012 at 08:59 PM. |

Sometimes I need to plug something else in, and the mouse receiver is either blocking it or in the position I want to plug the other thing into, or sometimes I want to use the mouse on another computer. |

oh, i see now... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...-and-hibernate Anyways, check with the motherboard bios for "wake on mouse" and if you have an nvidia chipset you should get its drivers updated. I presume you're upgrading from xp->7? If you can't seem to find what chipset you have, you can use cpuz. Last edited by µR¼: 08-09-2012 at 12:30 AM. |

Disable wake with mouse in BIOS. Or shut down computer.

I have all the latest drivers installed from ASUS, the manufacturer of my laptop, but I never got the drivers directly from the makers, perhaps with the exception of ATI. Do you recommend doing that instead? This PC has always had Windows 7 installed. |
