Audio/Video Crash
Having another issue with another friend's PC. In most games that he plays, after a few minutes the audio and video will completely crash on him. Black screen. The lights and fans inside the PC stay on, however nothing can be done about the audio/video. He also mentions that power to his mouse/keyboard cut off briefly, as the lights on them turn off. The only way to fix it is force restarting his PC. His fan speed is turned up above factory settings, and the temperatures on the GPU and case are both within safe parameters.

First thing I would do (as it's also the easist) is check the hard drive(s) for any errors.
Next (as it's the next easist thing to do) is run a memory diagnostics on each of the ram sticks (take one out test, swap over, test again). How old is the system and what brand is the PSU? As PSUs get older they degrade. Perhaps reinstall the sound/video drivers. Last edited by TeKraken: 08-11-2012 at 02:37 PM. |

Did the memory diagnostic. Checked HDD for errors. PSU is Coolermaster by the way.
He says it only happens when its too warm in his room, yet his core, GPU, and CPU temps are lower than mine, and we have the same card. I doubt this could have anything to do with just overheating. It makes no sense. |

If there is overclocking, I would set it back to stock. For example the memory is @ 1866 mhz , set it down to the common 1333 mhz for troubleshooting.
