Question Which netbook is better.

Hello

I have been looking around to fine a new netbook for collge. So i came up with these two very affordable netbooks.

So here the things i need to take into account.

(Top is more importaint.)(of course work come first but nvm)

Performance and compatibility (Windows 7 only)
Design build
Value for money!
Batteru life to last one day of casual use.
Real life performance not just on paper
Gaming and browing.(Not high end simply low end such as hl2 hl at most cod4.)

The screen size i Really do not care both 11.6 10.1 have there goods and bads.

Besides here are netbooks there both the same price. i do have a hand built gaming desktop so i do know.

But whats so hard to find out is which cpu is better including the gpu! Plus the hp come with a hefty 500gb which i think is nice

So here are the netbooks

the hp one:http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pav...y~RR~~12041361

the asus one: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-x...y~RR~~12693662

i think the hp one is better. But in reality I don't know. neither are powerful so it a good battery life since gaming not a major but nice feature

Leave comments (Refurbished is fine since its a 1 year guarantee =))

I have been researching the HP ones.
That is an older model of the dm1, the newer ones have the same clock speeds but better integrated graphics. I don't have it so I can't tell from first hand experience.

It should still play hl2 fine.

Also, its not actually a net book, but its not fully a notebook either. its in an awkward position in between classes.

Edit: They have youtube videos of Cod 4 on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlUjtBXDVKs
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS91HMkoyi8

The second one is recording which takes it down by about 10 fps

Even The Older HP graphics are much much much much much much much much better, and the CPU is actually better too. intel atom sucks.

Also, HP claims that the battery can last 9.5 hours, but that is with lowest brightness and no wifi. In reality it will last around 6:30-7:00 hours browsing, which is still better then the ASUS from what I can tell.

HP is better in every regard except its alittle bigger and not as stylish.

A video of half life 2 ran at 60 fps on lowest settings, as long as the processor isnt holding it back(it wasnt because of 60 fps) then you should play half life 2 at some pretty high settings. I have no idea what those would be though. this video isnt exactly the best idea of what you could get. with some tweaks it could work better, and he was recording. you could also lower resolution.

There you go. Im not sure what the price of a new one with a E2-1800 with 7340m(its about 375 dollers, but I don't know about Euros or pounds, not sure what the price there is, sorry )
The new processor's graphics should do even better with games and videos.

I updated it

Just stumbled across this, LOL
Dont try to play anything CPU dependent like this.

To be fair, GTA 4 maxes out my i5 CPU at 3.2 Ghz. I only get 20-30 fps.

For you though, most things CPU dependent are a no go, you might get some bethesda games to work with mods though.

True true. As you saw by my list gaming is a minor. But it if it can handle hl2 like that at a nice avg of 56 with out muticore rendering (strangley) then it could play l4d on lowest i am certain.

Besides beats my old gma x3100 any day LOl

Gta 4 is a hog of power for anything

My desktop with a gtx 250 (old i know) and a core 2duo 2.66ghz only gets 20-40fps on mid settings at native 720p. This game is badley coded and gets worse with episodes LOL

another e-350 with only 2gb rma on dead island. This video goes to show that it can play games on high settings like dead island or could do when at lowest possible settings. Plus only 2gb ram and a e-350 not a 450. I think the e-350 was more popular because the e-450 was released with the updated a series not sure?

Dead Island is not very demanding on lowest settings. most modern games are not very playable if at all on a cpu like that. you may get an okay average but the minimums will completely ruin the game. and videos are not always very accurate though either. AMD was very deceptive(aka lying) when they made it look like Batman Arkham Asylum could run on the E-350. it was simply that one spot that was getting around 30-35 fps but once you left from there it would plummet and was not even close to playable.

Yes indeed. Though in the first place i was looknig at runninng hl2 source based games, games from 2007 old games. Not new games. Sometimes you get people who come along and say 'No you can not even play basic 3d games on a crappy 6320' in this case it's not true. These high end games that are playble on lowest do say that old games will be playble on mid or even high.

(Not implying u said it could not lol)

Here is a list of how the E-350 and E-450 compare to the others and the top of the line E2-1800

I just found something awsome yesterday, go try onlive. It will work amazing, or fail depending on your internet speed, but it can be awsome. I can play a ton of demanding games like saints row 3 on my PHONE!

Its like netflex, only with games.

I am really excited, I just discovered this and it is pretty awsome.

onlive is garbage compared to real pc gaming or even console gaming for that matter. 1920x1080 is a very common res monitor nowadays and 720 with low settings looks like . and the lag is just too much for games that require any precision at all like shooters. I literally get sick feeling playing games through onlive because the lag. and its not my connection as I had 30 meg with 20ms ping plus I live within 150 miles of their server. it was kind of funny to see Metro 2033 playing on my single core Atom netbook though. lol

and speaking of netflix those AMD cpus like E-450 cant even play those movies in HD.

I Am impressed by onlive, and even though it looks like a youtube video, PLAYING SAINTS ROW 3 ON MY PHONE!, who cares. its cool. Also I live in chicago and looking at this
http://onlivefans.com/showthread.php...rver-Locations

I am nowhere near one of there servers AND playing on a 2Mb connection. Now Ill admit online games like homefront arent great(but suprisingly not gamebreaking for me, first time playing and went 1.3 kd). I tried metro, and since I can max out, I know what you saying, but its still FAR FAR better then trying to run it on a netbook.

I can play any game on my laptop far better then it, but it says on the front page that they arent trying to replace gaming PC's.
And I love the trials, steam should buy these guys. Imagine it

There is no way that that laptop would play Saints row or metro or any other demanding games it has, but now it can assuming he has good internet.

As for netflix, I read about it. A combination of microsoft and netflix being stupid and not adding hardware acceleration to netflex. Its a problem with them, not the laptop. well, I take that back, the older laptops GPU isnt quite as stong as the E2, so It may be both.

U.K Plus wales no infity ty copper cable less than 1.1mb a second. Ive tryed onlive i hate it. What makes you think i can use onlive at school?

I am going to state this again. I am only playing oldergames am not going to go to a store and pick up metro2033 just to play on my netbook! Most demanding game would be cod4 or mw2. Mostly source and old old games. like max payne 2 and 1.

I don't want a debate about onlive or any top top end games. I know they won't work. But most gma 3150 can not even play max payne smoothly on mid this hp can play it maxed with no aa =D

The HP one is better, has 4GB of RAM and has Win7 Home Premium.

However, Netbooks are not MEANT for gaming, while its possible thats not what they are meant to be used for.

If you want something for gaming then choose a a Laptop as an actual Laptop has better hardware.

i have an ASUS EEE PC Netbook that works pretty well for chatting and browsing n such, i mainly use it to look stuff up when im gaming on the desktop n such or when the powers out as i have a UPS to keep the router up n running.

Anyway, ASUS would be better cuz they dont add all the extra bs that HP does, but between those 2 specs wise the HP is better.

As long as Onlive, nor any other cloud gaming company tries to pass it off as a replacement for consoles or gaming PCs, then I don't have any complaints.

Hey, no problem. I am just saying that I just discovered it and I was pretty exited about it, mostly because I got to sample a bunch of games I never wanted to buy and I thought it was awsome that I could play things on my phone, most games on android look like N64 games lol.

I just threw that out there as an option if your at home, didn't want to start a debate.

If you do get the HP, post what fps you get in left 4 dead. I am very interested in that.

That's cool lol =P. Most of the time u start a thread it becomes a debate against something which me the starter of the thread has nothing to do with ?

Onlive is good if you have good internet, but its not a option for a number of reasons.

I will post the fps ill pm it to you but it possibly be in 4-5weeks!
