Steam Glitching

Hope I'm posting this in the right place...

Over the past two days I've been experiencing a fairly annoying 'glitch'. First, my Steam found an update for the Source Filmmaker and upon trying to update it, it tries 'verifying the game' and crashes my computer. I tried three times with the same result, so I went to verify the game cache and again... it got about half way and blue screened.

Then I just tried starting a game up to play, and it says "scanning for Steam updates..." and just sits there. It even does it for none Steam games ^.-

I'm a little bit baffled, is there a solution that doesn't involve completely uninstalling and reinstalling games? I'd really appreciate a hand!

*SOLUTION*

Okay, just a heads up incase anyone else has this problem,
it's not a very solid solution unfortunately.

I signed into one of my siblings accounts that also has the SFM, for some reason it decided not to blue screen on that one. So I just did the update from the separate account on the same computer, then I re-logged onto mine and it had fixed itself. None of the games say searching for updates and the SFM works again
