SOC 1st playthrough should I use Complete mod?
Hey guys,
I'm typically against using mods on first playthroughs if they change the core experience. For example, I am still playing Fallout 3 GOTY edition without mods and I have put close to 200 hours in that game. But it seems like the Complete mod for Shadow of Chernobyl is very highly recommended, and seems to really enhance the game for the better. Should I install the mod for the first playthrough? And also, can I still launch the game through Steam with the Complete mod running? Thanks, |

Second answer....yes you can An alternative to Complete is ZRP http://www.metacognix.com/files/stlkrsoc/index.html ZRP is highly recommended as it deals with so many of vanilla bugs. In fact Complete includes much, if not all of ZRP. Complete does however go further and improves graphics etc without deviating too much from the vanilla game. Hope this helps

If someone's mod isn't working, it is probably because they screwed up the installation
I first played the Stalker games with the Complete mods, and I really enjoyed it. They attempt to fix the buggy game, and update the graphics (though the CoP Complete is buggy as ♥♥♥♥ and is notorious for corrupting save files--make many!). They're fairly simple mods for new comers to install and they don't add too much new content. Their intent is mostly just to polish and update the vanilla experience. I'd say go for it, unless you think you're getting sucked into the games--then maybe save Complete for a second-run, so you can enjoy a somewhat fresher experience again

that really doesnt make the game easier, it just means instead of swapping out a new set of armour and weapons every few hours you instead go and get them repaired which normally works out to costing more than buying new equipment.

Complete for CoP creates many problems that were never in the vanilla game, so just get rid of it. Vanilla is fine on its own. . |

Not everyone experiences the problems, luckily, but they are there. The game is especially bad at handling actors, specifically, creating and removing them. The worst I got was when I was helping the scientists collect readings in the second area--I was down in the northern swampy area, and had to fend off all those mutants. That thing crashed almost every other minute, and saving was out of the question, as it would pull in all the corruption and make my save a ticking bomb from there on out. I had to load an old save and force myself through the quest. Luckily, Complete comes with a spawner menu, so I just spawned in a bunch of friendly stalkers to help stave off the attack (less deaths for the game to try and clean out).
Just don't be a ditz and run around with only one save file, and you should be fine. However, the Complete mod really isn't all that necessary, compared to SoC's Complete 2009; Pripyat was surprisingly stable. It has a few problems here and there, but you can fix these up with pretty much whatever you want. It's a pick-your-poison kinda deal

Hey guys, will the Complete mod run well on a 6850 1gb? How much more resource heavy is it from the vanilla game?

STALKER has 4 difficulty settings. If it's too easy then turn up the heat.

Complete is fantastic, and I recommend it to first-time STALKERs.
