Cloud saves overwrote all my current saves...

Played Deus Ex over the weekend. Logged in on Monday to play again. Received steam message saying the cloud saves did not match the saves on my computer. Message would not let me proceed until I chose to load the cloud saves or the ones on my computer. No information was given about the content of the saves or how they differed. The message said that the cloud saves were dated the same day as the ones on my computer. That is all I had to go on. I foolishly trusted Steam and selected to load the cloud saves. Now, all the saves I made over the weekend have been replaced by saves from a previous play-through that I completed last week. All my most recent saves from over the weekend are gone. Is there any way to retrieve them and is there any way to disable the cloud save feature so this does not happen again?

Can Steam Cloud saving be disabled?

It has caused nothing but problems and today it overwrote all the saves from the past two days of playing. How do I make it go away?

Settings>Downloads + cloud, it's all pretty self explanatory from there.

Steam cloud sync is dangerous to your saves

There are multiple threads scattered across these forums where users describe the same thing that happened to me. Steam cloud sync overwrites current saves with older ones.

Advise you disable cloud sync in game properties or use at your own risk.

Have you been playing offline? That's the only time I can think of where the cloud will override your saves, and even then the system warns you about the difference in the files, asking which you'd like to keep.

Uh, unless there's a bug, of course.

Okay, researched my own question and here is the answer. Cloud sync is disabled in the game properties dialogue in your library. There are many threads buried in the forums where users had current saves overwritten with older ones due to cloud sync not functioning correctly. Use it advisedly.

Just a friendly heads up, if you have an issue with a mods action, PM them but don't complain about it on the forums. They get ugly about that.

I agree that cloud saving isn't dependable. Some game sseem to work correctly others don't. Not sure if it's a Steam issue or connected to the individual games.

I always choose local files never the cloud ones.

I can't identify anything that may have caused the glitch. I don't play offline and I closed the game in my usual way.

Yes I did get the message that the cloud saves and my local saves were not synced. I was required to choose to load either the cloud saves or the local ones. The only info they gave me regarding the different versions of saved games was that both were dated from my last day of playing. This was not enough info. I selected to load the cloud saves.

Big mistake.

Always choose local saves. Why would you even choose cloud? Local is the last time you played without a doubt.

I agree that not enough info is given about the saves especially for people playing on multiple devices during the day.

Yes, but I think the point was that you don't actually know to do this until you've made the costly mistake once.

what infos would you like to see on the cloud sync error window? how far you got in deus ex? impossible for steam to tell. the only option steam can provide you is the date when the save was last modified. and as other in here allready mentioned, allways use the local file over the could one. since the game first saves it on your HDD and after that it gets uploaded, you will get the latest save (in case you played the game on one machine at a time).

It'd be nice if the time it was last modified was given, outside of that though I'm able to make mental notes of where/when I last played. Since I play on a number of different PCs it's a bit important for me to remember anyway since local isn't always the newest.
