TF2 Validating Every Time it Opens

So, yeah, like the title says, every time I launch TF2, it starts to validate the game cache files. What do? D:

This has been going on for several days now.

I'm getting this lately too. Try letting it fully validate, then restarting Steam. If that doesn't work, redo it, but restart the computer.

That's the thing. Every time I launch it for the first time in the day, it validates. I suppose the "every time it opens" was an exaggeration. Can't really fix it now, though.

Anyway, that's the problem. Every time I launch it for the first time after my computer has booted up, it seems to force itself to validate. It also loves to hang on 100%. Dear Valve, LEARN MATH. If something is at 100%, that means it's FINISHED. DONE. FINITO. END OF THE LINE.

I'm also having the exact same issue, every day after turning my computer on I have to validate the cache files again. I've tried reinstalling Steam and Team Fortress 2 with no success.

You haven't been giving Team Fortress 2 enough love... it's beginning to feel insecure.

If you let it know that it still holds a special place in your heart, it might stop trying to seek validation everywhere else.

As much as this did get a chuckle out me, it still is a very annoying problem.

Hopefully Valve will do SOMETHING about this and not "fix" it like all the other bugs I still experience that they claim have been solved, like the Heavy's invisible hands.

It's annoying but here's how to fix.

Let it finish.

Even if it says 100%, do not touch/stop it until the pop-up box disappears. If you do, you'll have to go through it all again. It'll take a few minutes, but once it's done you're all set

Here is the permanent fix: Delete clientregistry.blob and appstatupdate.blob in your steam folder.

I do that every time, it still happens on reboot.

I've tried this also, it doesn't work and still happens on reboot.

Aye, same here. That's what's so frustrating about this.

I am having a slightly different issue, after every single update my TF2 wants to re-verify the integrity of the game cache. Yes, I've already tried completely removing anything to do with TF2 and did a fresh re-install, made no difference.

have you tried defragmenting your gcf files? I don't mean the "defrag local files" option within steam.

1. Install GCFscape
2. Download HLLib.zip
3. Place the bin files (hlextract.exe and hllib.dll) from the Hllib.zip into your steamapps directory.
4. Type the following into Notepad and save as ‘gcfdefrag.bat’ into the steamapps directory:

Quote:
@echo off
for %%F in (*.gcf) do "HLExtract.exe" -f -p "%%F"
pause
5. When Steam is off, run ‘gcfdefrag.bat’ and it will defrag all your GCF game files.

edit: you tube tutorial

I'm giving this a go now. However I have already tried defragging the Team Fortress 2 gcfs with GCFscape with no luck. Maybe it's a problem with some of the other source ones, we will soon see.
