Error message: Game not ready for play in offline mode

Trying to playTF2 offline. When I try, however, I get the error message as stated in the title. It seems like an update is stuck, and I'm at a place where there is not a connection (I am typing this from my phone). So, what do I do?

you can play it offline... same for css and l4d1 2 and dod and w/e. If you don't know the answer Instead of spamming on this forum try to inform yourself.

btw OP there's no way you can play it (offline or online) until the update is complete.

Thank you. Anyways, I know that. My question is, how can I cancel or finish the update without Internet?

You can't. Besides, even if did find a way to launch the game, it would be buggy as it's only part way through the patching/updating process.

Incidentally, this is one of the things which isn't a problem with the new content system, because games don't actually start being updated until the patch is fully downloaded. So this sort of issue will stop being a problem at all in the future.
