Thumbs down I dislike this whole new thingy!

I REALLY dislike the new behavior: I click on "Forums" on a game page and get this disgusting thingy which is NOT what I want, which does not have the information I search and which makes me really, really mad.

I so much liked the simplicity of steam.
  • See game in special
  • check its store page
  • check it in the forum
  • buy it
  • ask questions in the forum

You see, 2 of 5 points were about the forum.

Now it is like...
  • See game in special
  • check its store page
  • click on "forum" and see some stuff I do not want to look at
  • press "view/Forums"
  • press Continue (yes, I will not do bad things in this forum)
  • press ctrl-f
  • enter the name of the game
  • open the forum
  • check it in the forum
  • buy it
  • click on "forum" and see some stuff I do not want to look at
  • press "view/Forums"
  • press Continue (yes, I will not do bad things in this forum)
  • press ctrl-f
  • enter the name of the game
  • open the forum
  • ask questions in the forum

Are you ing crazy? What facebook kiddy decided that this is a good idea?

I want ONE forum for my game. That is it. The rest is for the trash can.

Could someone please fire the people responsible for that crap and get us the old behavior of the forum links back?

You know... when you click on "forum"... you get to the forum... not really complicated, right?

The discussions/forums thing is a joke. Right-clicking a game and clicking on "Forums" takes you to "Discussions". This is horrible and absurd. It says "Forums", not "Discussions". I hate the discussions layout, format and content. Make the "Forums" go to the actual forums!

And I liked it better when it had text saying "Your friend has posted a screenshot" or "Your friend has post 5 new screenshots" instead of the way it is now where the the huge screenshot wastes so much space in the feed. I had to disable the screenshots notifications completely because of this junk.

I also preferred the old achievements text too; now I have to mouse-over each achievement icon to see what it is instead of just glancing at the text.

What is this rubbish? This new system is painful and a hinderance.

I agree with all of the above; it is crazy to make getting on the Steam Forums, so long winded and complicated. I use Steam to download games (I prefer digital copies) and keep in contact, via the forums, with a few like minded pals. The other main reason I use the forums is for trouble shooting and sometimes helping others if I can...that is it in a nut shell. I would hazard a guess that I am in the majority.

Yep, insult the developers; that's the best way to get your question answered.

Oh no, wait! Sorry, I just realized, it's actually the best way to make sure your feedback gets ignored.

I dislike Facebook. I cast dispersions on it like a 75 yo man scoffing at "those damn kids".

The new Steam redesign I like. All my friend's screenshots are right there (without searching around on people's profiles) for me to browse through. We can directly comment on them and so forth, which is cool. That's Facebook-like, I'll admit

But unlike Facebook, it's not a picture wall of 16 year old girls smoking weed and TaLkInG LiKe ThIs. Instead, it's all about the vidya games and nothing else. For someone like myself (I don't have any nerd friends or coworkers) it's a great way to socialize with other nerds about vidya games. Which I enjoy.

The finding of real foums is a pain, yes. But it's Valve. They'll make all sorts of changes to Steam to cater to consumer demand. Eventually.

Potentially offensive wording doesn't make ZanyCynic's statement any less relevant. It was hardly an insult -- this entire Steam upgrade reeks of social networking emulation (and so far, it's a poor emulation at that), so I'd say ZanyCynic's right on the money with his/her description. The Community revamp was done by a team of designers/marketers/analysts who were obviously inspired by crap like Facebook and Twitter.

On the contrary, how else can one exclaim the sheer dissatisfaction one has over such an unintuitive creation? Speech peppered with curse words allows those listening to gauge the emotion of the one delivering the speech.

"I'm disappointed in these changes."

is a far cry from:

"These changes are ing terrible."

As a business owner, If 100 recipients of my service complain with a considerable amount of dissatisfaction, to the point of swearing at me, clearly I'm doing something wrong and I'll consider their complaints; however if 100 recipients of my service complain with a seemingly moderate level of neutrality, it doesn't seem as significant and my care factor diminishes. These 100 people could be wrong in either direction but if they're swearing, perhaps their perception of the service I'm providing has been adversely affected and I should do something to resolve this, even if I arrogantly believe I'm providing the best service.

I have a feeling the changes would be met with less dissatisfaction if Valve intelligently connected new communications with old communications, to allow a smooth transition for all parties to communicate together.

Some of the changes are also incongruous between games, it's not an entirely consistent change.

One thing I dislike from new community is too many kids on Discussions who can't even write English properly, and begging for free games.

Other than that, I love the new community. It surely makes everything more social. For examples, almost no one commented on my screenshots before new community rolling out. The layout needs some more work though, and yes, a link to Forums would be fine if we prefer to discuss on SPUF.

That would be nice if you could bookmark with the steam web browser. Whenever TF2 is having "issues", I used to get to the forums from the steam overlay to see if there's an update going out. Now it sends me to the discussions.

I have ... some games. Shall I create a bookmark for each of them? Why? We had a working and good system. They changed it. I want it back.

I own 150 games, the average steam user owns like 80.

I hate this discussion thing. It's like some crazy IM thing. old-fashioned forums are a hell of a lot easier to use

I agree. What's with the lack of options? If you (Steam) REALLY want Discussion, why not link to both Discussions AND the forum? That way people can decide for themselves what they want, and not be forced to do one or the other.
