Need help chosing internet Provider first time
Hi everyone,
I would like some advice on chosing an internet provider. I am moving to my first apartment in two weeks. Heres an idea of what I will be using my internet for: Downloading Steam games. -On campus I was getting 1.1 to 1.2 mb/s downloading steam games. Now since Im home my parents are probably not going to upgrade their connection just for me. At home Im getting somewhere around 250 kb/s to 300 kb/s. Takes forever to download games and I dont like leaving my pc on all day. Streaming Movies on Netflix and Amazon. -Im deciding not to get cable. I can afford it, but I cant justify the extra spending if I dont have the time to really watch it and the free time I will have I want to use it to play games. I have an amazon prime membership so if I want to watch something I can, but I want the connection to be at least HD quality when I stream it. SD content does not look great on my TV. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Depends on where you live and the available choices. You're better off asking in the appropriate forum at http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all.

It depends entirely on what is available to you and whose territory you are in.
Do you know who the local incumbent telco and cableco is in your area? If not can you give us some idea of the town/area that you live in? I'm not asking for your specific address, just something that can help us narrow down your options. Assuming you live in the united states I would prioritize from most to least appealing as: 1. Cable internet, unless you live in verizon wireline territory (not the same as having verizon wireless available) and have verizon fiber available to you. 2. If in at&t territory uverse 3. If none of the above are available dsl with the local telco 4. If none of that verizon 4g wireless or a small local wireless service provider. 5. Other wireless providers 6 satellite. |
