DOOM 3: BFG Edition - Improved lighting my a..

Originally posted by id.dav on Bethesda forums. Reposted here so people will know what they are buying:
Remastered rendering.....really? This is all BS! One can easily activate console and type r_lightscale 1 and will see standard original doom 3 lightning!!!
Oh id, you can cheat console kids, not pc gamers, especially your FANS!

autoexec.cfg :
seta g_fov 100
seta g_gunY -0.6
seta g_gunX -0.1
seta com_skipintrovideos 1
seta r_lightscale 1

So, I totally knew this was gonna suck and feel like a cheap console game...so I decided to try it first before deciding if I wanna purchase it or not and seriously, I uninstalled after 10 mins!! Terrible FOV, horrible textures and lighting, no real graphics options...its just better to get the original and use graphics mods which will make it look just stellar!
Pass on this POS!!!

Nope. I suggest you try demanding your money back.

Umm... did you read it? You can have "enhanced" lighting in your vanilla DOOM 3, just set r_lighting to 2. Of course it doesn't compare to Sikkmod! Sikkmod had actual effort put into it!

Well Sikkmod will obviously look better, but there are alot of settings/tweaks for Sikkmod so everyone using it will have a different looking game.

This is how I set mine. Just gonna copy paste from my other post.

"Before viewing the screenshots, I recommend turning up your Digital Vibrance a bit in Nvidia Control Panel to get the full effect. Pics will appear dull and colorless if that is set too low. I have mine at 90 percent right now, but we all have different monitor settings so that might be too little or too much depending on what monitor you have, so just experiment with it. You should use it on all your games anyways, it makes their colors pop out more.

Again this is my personal preference. Some people will hate the look I went for but I love it myself, the darkness compliments the horror feel of the game imo."

I wasn't a fan of the film grain, but the overall darkness made it super suspenseful. When you can't see what is wailing on you, you got it right.

I'm glad you like it man. And yeah Film grain isn't for everyone lol.
I'm still debating over Filmic(complex) and Exponential for HDR tone mapper though. Filmic(complex) makes it darker but is it too dark, hmm idk.

But yeah point is, Sikkmod obviously is alot better than BFG lol.

I wish you could fix the FOV at least. It makes it really hard to play (especially with a 3D TV as turning the camera is hard on the eyes).

Field of view can be tweaked with this:
seta g_fov 100

Seen in the OP.

heh...I saw this earlier tonight when I was poking through the cvars. I saw lightscale was 2 and I remember it being 1 before. I changed it to 1 and thought it looked a lot like the Doom 3 I remember. lol

BFG supports multicore and if mods can be imported into it they will run much better than they did in the original Doom 3.

set com_allowconsole i believe is 0 by default. This means you have to hit ctrl + alt + tilda to open console. This is actually gamer friendly so you don't actually hit tilda by accident during gameplay (especially multiplayer as this tends to be standard across all iD games). Otherwise if you change set com_allowconsole to 1, then you can just use tilda. Either way, as others have said, it's just g_fov 110 or whatever you want.

com_allowconsole has been default to 0 in all idTECH4/5 titles. I don't see why people think this is new and are making such a stink of it.

CTRL+ALT+` should work too.
