I am a just wondering since I run the servers for my clan if this is normal....
I run a CSS server and a COD server on this server and the memory usage between CSS and COD is unbelievable. If you look in the picture shown below you will see what I mean: http://www.modclan.co.uk/cakk/normal.jpg If you look at the memory usage here are what I see: CoDMP.exe - Call of Duty - 51,572 Kb srcds.exe - Source Dedicated Server - 202,904 Kb Steam.exe - Steam - 29,832 Kb Both servers are actually empty as well, with only 4 bots on CSS as they are set to join before a human. Firstly, the difference between the actual servers is great. Now occasionally with the Source server, I get a memory error come up which is similar to the error shown in this thread. http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...hreadid=297145 Now I am wondering, am I getting this error because the memory usage on CSS is constantly growing as when I started the server, it didn't use this much memory. Here is a picture of the task manager, after a CSS server restart: http://www.modclan.co.uk/cakk/normal2.jpg Hmmm, a fair bit smaller than what is shown in picture 1. Picture 1: 202,904 Kb Picture 2: 16,284 Kb Now you may say, it is constantly growing as I have bots on the server, but shouldn't it maybe recycle the memory used on a map change? Surely an empty server with 4 bots doesn't need 202,904 Kbs of memory? I have also thought using the console version of the Dedicated Server that it might be the console part that saves a huge log which is scrollable... Maybe if you cut the log to 24 hours only on the scroller and save the rest to a text file? Is this possible? |

srcds is chaching everything. If it goes through your whole map cycle and there is enough memory left then it doesn't go any garbage collection. My linux server that have been runninga for a long time hardly touch the disk except for writing log files...everything has been chached. This is good, you map load times will be shorter then they otherwise would be.

Yeah, but the problem is, it continually grows...
It doesn't stop growing so I run out of memory and server crashes! Not good |
