Original Doom 3 and RoE now only available in the Super id Pack?

After coming to the conclusion that my original discs are shot and giving up trying to get BFG Edition to run, I decided to check the Steam store for the original Doom 3, only to see that it doesn't look like you can purchase it outside of the Super id Software Pack, which is $99.99. Some friends have checked it and it looks like it's a universal change. Anyone know the reasoning for this?

They want people to buy BFG edition instead obviously lol. Glad I still have the original Doom 3 on disc.

Save 80 dollars or so* and get the QuakeCon Pack 2013, which includes all Bethesda and id titles**. Just hope it is still offered there then.

This is bullcrap, why? Nice way to alienate your loyal fanbase by also doing this.

If they do this with the original Doom and Doom 2, they can forget about me as a customer for a very long time.

Edit: Now you don't get Master Levels with Doom 2. Makes total sense.

It doesn't even make sense to do it with Final Doom since it's stupidly not in the BFG edition anyway. It looks like they also got rid of the Master Levels when you buy Doom 2. Looks like they're both only available in the ID pack. The Doom pack is off Steam also.

Buying them individually is extremely expensive anyway. The Id pack goes on sale during events.

There was a complete Doom pack too which essentially contained the original versions of all the games included in the BFG edition for only $5 more than it

Why would ID do this? I can get that they want people to buy the new version of their game but wouldn't they be still getting money from selling the old version over Steam? Why do they not want people to pay them money for the original version of Doom 3?

I honestly have no idea why they'd pull the original off. Both packs were $30. I actually needed to get the original on Steam because suddenly my boxed copy is saying my CD key is already in use.

I got the Doom pack for $8.74 a few months ago. Now that the pack is gone you won't be able to get such a nice deal anymore. That also included Final Doom and the Master Levels. The ID pack is not close to that kind of deal.

They are probably pulling the originals off so people are forced to spend the moolah, or settle for the BFG edition.

I had the same thing too but a work around is disconnecting your internet before you install and before you play. If you accidently launch it with internet, its gonna ask you to input a new code on the main menu. Then you'll have to uninstall and reinstall all over again.

Hope it helps unless your a multiplayer fan.

Nonetheless there are some cheap prices of the Original on Amazon less than $20

because the only reason i see myself playing the original doom 3 and expansion, over the BFG Edition. is for the lastmanstanding co-op

Sneaky bastards. The real id died a long time ago. Just like Monolith and many others. Frankly though, I'm surprised it's even available in the pack at all. They couldn't even put out a complete edition.

Basically if they can't convince you to buy their made for the console BFG version with missing content then they will make you pay a premium to get the real thing.
