DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. Black Ops 2 will not open. **Resolved**

When attempting to launch Black Ops 2 I get this message. (Photo in link)

"DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error.
Check the readme for possible solutions."

Solution

DIRECT X ERROR FIX FOR MULTI-MONITORS!!!
FIRST PRESS WINDDOWS KEY+ P. Scroll left to "Computer Only". Your secondary monitor should go out (turn black). Then simply start the game.

There are a lot of people getting this same problem. So am I. So join the club with the typical problems with opening day releases.

I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you but I am somewhat glad I am not alone. Maybe we can work together. Here is what I have done so far. What have you done?

I have done...
1. Verify cache file;
2. Re-installed graphic card drivers; (I uninstalled all Nvidia current and old drivers before hand)
3. Re-installed BO 2

I have...
Run the following installers:

...\Steamapps\Common\Call of Duty Black Ops II\redist\vcredist_x86.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\Call of Duty Black Ops II\redist\DirectX\dxsetup.exe

I have...
Removed by discrete sound card and enabled on-board audio. This had no effect so I reinstalled my sound card and disabled on-board audio in the bios.

I have also deleted all files in the steam folder "depotcache" before re-downloading black ops 2. After installing Black Ops 2 there are still 17 files in this folder. Can anyone verify if these files should be there with a working Black Ops 2?

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
On the Settings tab, click Identify to display a large number on each of your monitors. This shows which monitor corresponds with each icon.
Change the primary display if necessary.
Uncheck the "Extend my Windows desktop".

I got this error as well and I don't do dual monitors. I just rolled back from the beta drivers. Basically just reinstalled graphics drivers fixed it for me. No issues now.

Game launched after I...

"...PRESS WINDDOWS KEY+ P. Scroll left to "Computer Only". Your secondary monitor should go out (turn black). Then simply start the game."

This is the ONLY game I have ever played where my second monitor caused an issue. If this doesn't work for you others have had to uninstall 3rd party application that manage multiple displays.

Go through this thread, it is where we original fixed the problem.
